A couple weeks ago I asked for suggestions what this could be. It would make noise when turning right, but it was quiet as can be turning left. I was thinking it would be a wheel bearing, a couple guys suggested that my trak-lock was going out. Both wrong! See if you can find what's wrong in this pic.

Any ideas what would cause that? Any suggestions how to prevent it from happening again?

Here is my guess.

When you turn right, the weight is shifted to the left. This makes the left side of the car go down, and the right side come up.

Somehow the ring gear is being pushed down onto the differential housing. But you have a solid rear axle. I don't see how anything could flex in the rear end. The main caps hold the carrier very sturdy.

Have you removed the carrier? How do the carrier bearings look? You should re-measure backlash, and use some gear marking grease to see your wear pattern. Maybe something is off, and causing this.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I just can't believe this could even happen.

When you installed your gears, did you use the same amount of shims on each side? Or did you need to adjust the backlash, and needed to put some on the right or left?

If you had to adjust it, did you make sure that the total shim thickness on both sides was the same on the new shims?

I didn't install the gears myself, took the car to a shop for that. It was feb 03 when I had them installed, no problems untill I found this.
