Actually they are bringing out a 425HP version of the Hemi this year, so stay tuned............Of couse as always Dodge doesn't seem to be able to get the gas mileage of the other 2 auto makers.

dodge seems to be going in the right direction with the multiple displacement hemi engine, i love mustangs but you have to give dodge credit, they are opening up some eyes in the auto industry and things are only going to get better

Yep, I don't like the new Dodge Charger either.

It reminds me of the Dodge RAM pickup truck, blended with the Chrysler 300C. Besides, the Charger NEVER came as a 4-door if I remember correctly.

This brings up a memory of Chevy using the Nova name on that little Geo thingy about 10 years back.

What ever happened to ingenuity? :(

Heres the REAL new charger. It will not be a 2 door by the way. Its based on the 300c and has a fastback body style. This months issue of car and driver has the info. There will be an srt-8 version with 425 horsepower just like on the 300C. It will still be a big heavy 4 door and look for the srt-8 version to cost well over $40,000 . Not exactly a direct cometitor to the stang maybe to the CTS-V though.

Four doors are soooo NOT cool...

That's a pretty funny comment. Chrysler's new styling has been nothing short of a hit this year. Ford is taking a huge gamble with the retro styling, can't blame the other automakers for not following suit. Dare I say it... Thunderbird :D

300C is a hit. It's a sweet looking ride, but chrysler shouldn't be practicing GM tactics of 80s by rebadging their cars.

Try again Dodge. The 300c Charger will suck. And I don't care how much HP it has, horsepower is moot when you have 4 doors. Simple as that...

Who wants a 4 door muscle car? Can a four door car even be called a muscle car?

Actually, yes, it can. 4-door muscle cars do exist in the pages of the Muscle Car Club (MCC), including the Fairlane and Galaxie. The defining factor of a muscle car is its powertrain-- NOT the number of doors.

So, yes, the Charger, equipped with the HEMI V8, is properly defined as a muscle car.

Now, a PONY car absolutely must be a 2-door... but the new Charger isn't a pony car...

... for that matter, neither was the original Charger (though its smaller sibling, the Challenger, was)...

Dude that is so right, a 4 door $45,000 charger srt-8 is going to steal a whole lot of mustang sales ford better watch it. It might even steal as many sales as the cadillac cts-v.

For one...who said the Dodge Charge was going to cost 45 grand? Considering the Dodge Magnum has an a base MSRP of 22,500, I don't know where you're getting the 45 grand number. Heck even the Autoweek article quoted a price of 25,000 (hmmm, Mustang territory).

Ford's doing the same thing. Ford 500/Mercury Montego. Ford Explorer/Lincoln Aviator. Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator.

Badging is a reality of all the automakers. Heck, even the Japanese do it.

Nissan 350Z/Infiniti G35.

Yes I was trying to remember the MAgnum. That new Charger is most possibly based off the Magnum i.e. un hatched version. If you look at side profile it looks similiar. Low windows. It must be based of the same platfrom. They will have the same wheelbase, just badged a charger. It may have a stick but my bet is it will be a carryover of Benz suspension and tranmission parts. The only +ve good thing is it should have IRS.

You know, with a simple Google search, you could find out just about everything you're guessing at.

Yes, the Magnum, Charger and 300 are ALL based off the LX platform. Yes, it has a high beltline, as per the Magnum and 300. It would cost too much $ to change that. According to Car and Driver, it will feature only the 3.5 V6 and 5.7 HEMI V8-- the 2.7 V6 will not be featured on the Charger, unlike the Magnum and 300. An SRT-8 version is foreseeable. There is currently no manual available on any of the 3 LX-based cars.

The car and driver article stated a base of $25,000 which is the V6 car. Look at the pricing of the BASE v6 magnum and the BASE v6 300. Then look at how much they charge for the v8 option. Have you been to dodge.com or chrysler.com and seen what the base of a v8 car is? Add in the options you would want like a decent stereo and nice trim and you are $10,000 more than a mustang gt.

The 22 grand one is the base v6 model. Got to dodge.com and build one. A V8 base price is $30,000. That’s for the 340 horse version. Make it fully optioned and you are almost $35,000 for a magnum and the upper 30's for the 300. For the future 425 horse srt-8 version the base will be over 40,000 and the only one that could beat a stang from the factory. Add in the poorer braking performance and handling due to the extra 600 pounds and you don’t have a close competitor to the mustang in any way. Also no manual trans available on any of the series.

I also reccomend that you pick up the latest issue of car and driver they have a several page spread on the charger. They list the base price V6 model at $26,000, the V8 at $30,000 just like the magnum.

The 340 horse version of the 300 and magnum are both slower than the stang as tested by motorweek tv and motor trend magazine. You realize they both weigh over 4000 pounds right? If you think dodge can afford to bring a 4000 pound V8 4 door charger out based on the 300 and magnum that is as fast as the stang for $25,000 send me some of the crack you’re smoking.

I think most people have come to the conclusion on this board that you are a complete moron semi troll that knows very little about cars. You should quit while your only neck deep. Of course you were the one that had to edit your post because you assumed it would be a 2 door also. Perhaps you should do a bit of research before posting things you obviously know so little about.

Heres some pictures of a magnum and 300 I built at the dodge and chrysler site. Look at the base prices.

Heres some info about the 300 C SRT-8

Below is an exerpt from the car and driver article.

Here's what the Autoweek article said:
Pricing for the car will likely start at just above the Chrysler 300, at around $25,000.
Notice the hightlighted word. That means V6 model. The Hemi version will likely be close to $30K with the SRT-8 even higher. The V8 model won't perform like a Mustang GT. The SRT-8 might come close. You're deluding yourself if you think a 4,000+lbs, automatic-only, 4-door behemoth that has lesser performance than a less expensive Mustang GT is going to steal sales.

There are rumors of 6-speeds getting into LX cars (Magnum, Charger, etc).
So who knows? They just came out, they have plenty of room for feature
changes/additions. If you add leather, automatic, 18" rims, and such to a
Mustang GT, it does creep closer to the $30K Magnum RT price (which has
all of those things already included in the $30K price) -- and it has IRS. :D
Comparing base Mustang GT to base Magnum RT is not apples to apples.
Although it would be better if Dodge offered stripper Hemi models! :nice:

Who said that the Charger's competition is the Mustang?????
Dodge is aiming at the sedan market with the Charger, Magnum, and 300C. They are trying to take the customers from the Crown Victoria's, Town Cars, Lincoln LS's, Impalas ... and not to mention the BMW 3 and 5 series. That is their target market, not the pony car market. It is ridiculous to compare a Magnum or Charger to a Mustang.
Next everyone will me crying because the new Pacifica offers a sunroof and DVD player and the 05 Mustang doesn't... Comparing apples to oranges.

What has happened to the designers out there? If your going to paste the name of a muscle car on something at least have the decency to do something with the car that makes look just a little exciting. The GTO looks like a big Grand am, and now a Charger Sedan! This is an outrage! I know the Charger name has been drug through the mud before, but Dodge should have some sense to bring it back as something more than this! The rear end of this thing just looks cheap! It looks like the intrepid rear end! I don't know about you, but too me nothing says sports sedan like the Dodge Interpid

I have heard/read rumors of a two-door version of the Charger, as well as an eventual 6-speed manual option.

It's not as "pony car" as the new Stang, but I still think it'll sell. I like it that cars like that are available. If I ever have kids and am forced to get a more "practical" car, worst case scenario is I get a Dodge with RWD and 340 hp. It's a niche that needs to be filled if you ask me.

I'm actually a contract engineer at DC, and I got to drive one of the 300C pool cars the other day. It's a sweet car for sure, and let me tell you, it would walk all over my stock '03 Stang.
