faulty boost gauge???

I test drove a new 04 Cobra and I noticed the boost gauge never got above, lets say, 2 PSI. The salesman said it might need recalibration or something like that, but he assured me that the SC was working. But what was odd is that I didn't feel the surge in power that I would expect from a supercharged cobra (in other words, the acceleration was not any better than my 01 cobra).

BTW, I could hear the SC whine, so that part must have been working, but I wonder if the wastegate was stuck open.

Do you guys have any comments/thoughts? Shouldn't the boost gauge read higher? Is there some button to activate "performance" mode?

No button. My boost gage goes right to 10psi when I put the pedal to the floor :)

You bring up a good point... Do you have to mash the pedal to the floor for the boost to go to max?

Now that I think about it, I may not have made the engine go Wide Open Throttle. However, I did get on it, so it still doesn't make sense to me that the car felt sluggish for a 400hp car.
Is there a certain RPM range that engine has to be above before it makes max boost pressure?

I witnessed the same thing when I test drove mine. I asked the salesguy about it and he said he's never heard about anything going wrong with them. Then when I bought it I figured out that the engines are so tight new that it takes a lead foot to get that boost gauge to move. It moves though

SVT programs the cars to make little to no boost for the first 200 miles or 20 key strokes. They want the motor to set a little before you go pushing in all that extra pressure. Mine was doing the same thing and that is what SVT told me when I called them.

Good info...thanks alfman.

It just goes to show that these salesmen don't know jack about the cars they are selling.

BTW: The cobra I test-drove had less than 200 miles (i think it was around 80). So that would fall in line with what the SVT rep told you

The salesman never know anything. The best thing is they even try to lie to the guys that work on the cars. Never trust them on anything technical, I have only met one salesman that truely cared about getting the specs right. It was so refreshing to watch him go thru a service manual :D

Exactly as he states.

Its really sad that salesman dont know the vehicles they are selling....

Can one of you guys answer his question.... I still need clarification on this issue too.

Thanks.

When I whomp it, she screams.

Torque. We got Torque. A whole lot of Torque.
