Was stumbling around the www.visracing.com website for no known reason and I thought I would humor myself to see if they made anything for the II. And there was a listing for a hood. No pics or description of style.

Anyone got one or know someone who does or the quality of VIS racing products? I want to get a hood and was going to go with the Showcars-bodyparts bolt on, but this may be a good alternative.

I also saw the VIS hood being offered on ebay.

Anyone can have their opinions on what is cool or not. If you don't like the weave, then paint the muther. I thought everyone would love that there are still some companies cranking new parts out for our "wannabe" mustang. Don't you guys hate seeing: Parts for Mustangs 64-73,79-present, in catalogs??? What happened to 74-78??? This time it didn't happen, and IIcrazy and I were the only ones that cared or were excited.

Anyway, will anyone agree that carbon fiber will resist cracking better than a fiberglass hood?

Thanks,
Alcino
Now I remember why I don't post that often, cause its depressing.

I don't think you need anyone to agree carbon fiber is better than fiberglass. I'm estatic that new parts are still showing up on the market for the II. Right now I'm not looking for a new hood but if I were I'd be all over some carbon fiber. I'd really love to have some new door weatherstripping (sigh)....

Hey guys, I got them to post the pic of the hood on the car since there was none before. Then that's when the Mav pic showed up. I emailed them stating the car in the pic is a Mav not a II. They said it was the same hood. I said no way and sent them a pic of a II. Anyway One of their workers mis-identified the car. So there is no II hood from them as I know of now. I'm a little pissed.

Just so you know, it was going to cost around $550-600 plus $150 shipping for all you non Los Angeles people. To me this was a reasonable price for a nice carbon fiber hood. I've seen good quality pieces for other cars go for $1200+. Key word "quality". It's better to spend more to be happy then save some and be mad everytime you look at your car.

Everyone should call or email them wondering about the hood. Maybe they will see the demand for it and make it. Never hurts to try. I really want an OEM style.

Yeah I emailed them last night, asking about details on the cowl size, price, if the hood was actually for a II or for a Maverick.

I've never heard a thing about a Maverick and a II having the same hood, I'm guessing that's not true. (I haven't researched it)

Anyone know the weight of a factory II hood? I'm under the impression that it's actually pretty light for a steel hood. I knew one road racer who was considering a fiberglass hood for his II, but then decided against it because the weight savings turned out to be pretty small.

Carbon fiber makes me want to throw up....It belongs nowhere near a II...

What about on the dash bezel I seen fortuna or some body turning those out.

But then again aluminum paint would look better than the brush aluminum finish on mine now

Alcino --good find too bad it was a mav I had to second guess my self when I first saw the pic

do the classic boys hate the movericks wasn't that another type of a horse :rlaugh:

I've heard that the import crowd can shave at least a couple seconds off their quarter mile times with some nice carbon fiber door handles or maybe a CF rear view mirror bracket.
For some reason, these tricks only work on imports, though. Something about magic or whatever.

Anyway, as for a carbon fiber hood for a II.. The $500+ you'd spend on a CF hood to save what, 2 pounds over a conventional fiberglass unit and maybe 12 pounds over the stock steel hood could be better spent on things that give you a bigger bang for the buck.
Head work, custom headers, new cam/intake, carburetor, etc.
I'd rather have a Demon carburetor than a CF hood. And I have a feeling your II would prefer it, too.
If I came across a CF hood for really cheap, of course I'd take it, because every little bit of weight does help, but I'd certainly paint it the body color. Trendoids suck. Especially trendoids in the automotive world.(read: import "racers")
