Making My Mustang Louder

X pipes = alternating flow at the "x", exhaust gases coming from left bank exits out driver side; from right bank out the passenger side.

H pipes= deeper sound but not as good of flow as X

Get a catted pipe, its worth it. I got a BBK o/r X failed emissions even though gases were VERY CLEAN just failed for not having cats. So went and had cats put on for another $200. Not much hp loss, just a lot quieter inside the car so you can actually hear stereo and peole talking.

Bassani makes AWESOME stuff but expensive ($500 for catted X)

I picked up my BBK for $150 from local speed shop. You will need MIL eliminators so "check engine" light stays off.

Keep cat back system

I should be getting my BBK headers tomorrow and throwing them on this weekend :D so we will see how she sounds then.

I already get complaints about mine now. BBK X, 2 Chamber Airflow Mufflers (pretty much Flowmaster 40s only flow MUCH BETTER; know the guy that used to design flowmasters then left the company and built his own and called them Airflow and thats what it does!) , 2.5 " all the way with 3x18" tips.

i've heard x-pipes via wav files and they don't sound as loud as h-pipes. I've stuck with my original stock H-pipe and installed flowmaster 40's delta flows with 3.5inch tips that make it look and sound nice on a GT.

I listened to the SLP with stock H pipe and thought that it would be loud enough but to my surprise its still too quiet. Sounds great though just needs to be louder. On my 1999 GT I had flows and a Bassani off road X pipe. It sounded amazing.

found an X pipe off ebay for $150..think its gonna make my car louder? im not sure what kind it is..all the Bassani X Pipes are like 300 bucks n i dont really want 2 pay that much since i just spent 450 bucks on my flows...let me kno if u think i should get it or not

also found a Flowtech X pipe...im not familiar with them so let me know if its worth the money and if it sounds good or not...should i get the one off ebay or buy the flowtech x pipe? wut would my best bet be

I don't think anyone's said this yet, but if so then here it is again. The H and X pipes are going to sound different. The X-pipe has a higher pitched more exotic scream to it, while the H-pipe has the deep muscle car rumble. Any midpipe without cats will be loud, but which one you go with is all dependant on what YOU want your car to sound like. I personally wanted a deep, throaty, rumble to my exhaust. I have a mac prochamber h-pipe and mac flowpath mufflers. It's one of the deepest sounding setups I've heard. It's definately not the loudest thing on the street, but I wasn't going for that. Good luck on your choice. :flag:

damn now i dont know wether to get the X pipe or H pipe...i went to mustangexhaust.com to listen 2 the clips but cant find ne that fit my car...i got a 96 GT with American Thunde cat-back..if ne 1 has ne sound clips with the X pipe and H pipe let me know..i dont want to put in the pipe then have my car sound like ****..

I'm curious how the catted bassanni x sounds. I want to still pass emissions but I want that awsome mustang sound. Is the catted X a whole lot like stock, with Flows or will it still really improve the loudness of the Flows. I'm getting the impression that you can't have sound and cats. I don't want mine deffening loud but just good deep mustang sound.
I too installed mufflers on factory cat back and was very dissapointed. It barely got louder at all(2003 Mach 1)

Like I said earlier, it boils down to what sound you want. Do you want deep or exotic?

You are going to get nearly the same performance gains so it just depends on what sound you want. If you have a chambered muffler, go with an H if you have a straight through go with an X. I think no matte what you choose, you'll be happy. Just remember, cheap doesn't always mean good.
