Is the timing right to "strike" on a 99 or 01?

With the 2005 Mustang on everyone's lips and minds, I'm wondering if the time is right to look into buying a pre-03 Cobra. As you can see in my sig, I'm currently stangless. I just bought the darling wife an '04 Mazda MPV for my 2 little angels to ride around in, so with that taken care of, Daddy deserves his Cobra! :D So for cost reasons, I'm thinking that I want to look at the '99 or '01 Cobra. I can look at Kelly, Edmunds or NADA all day long, but what do you all say these cars are currently worth? I've ridden in the '03 Cobra and man is it sweet, but the reality is that I can't afford it right now, but I know I don't want just a GT.

I too LOVE my 01. And the time is definetly right, I'll be honest, the market is very soft for used cars, especially high performance, gas hogs. I've had mine for sale, at what I believe is a very fair price, and still no bites. Of course it may have something to do with the color :( Anyways, now's the time to buy, BUT, what I would recommend is waiting a few more months and jumping on an 03. Unless of course you want to buy my 01 :D

1990stangLX, considering we're on opposite coasts, I'll take yours at a $5,000 discount for travel, meal, strip-bar expenses. :D Just kidding, being a father of 2, I would NEVER frequent such establishments. BTW what color is yours? I have considered waiting around until the 03's are a couple of years old, but I'm dying here! Must.....obtain........Mustang........soon....... can't........function........properly........ :bang:

So the seats are better in the '01? What else is different between those years?I'm so out of touch with the newer Mustangs I didn't realize they changed anything from the '99. I do know that after being around my cousins '96, I'll pass on that year. Of course he bought it used, but it seemed very un-refined, and I mean that in a non-homosexual way. It was just sloppy, not that quick and rattled like crazy.

Oh, I have to say it 1990stangLX; Cowbell!! I need more Cowbell!!! :rlaugh:

Don't let anyone talk you out of buying a nice '99 if you run across one. Our '99s are bad-mouthed because of a problem that has already been "fixed" on most/all '99 Cobras and you can take advantage of it by finding a nice '99 for much less than an '01 which is basically the same vehicle minus seats, 6 disc CD changer, COBRA bumper and smoked headlights. '01s had their problems also. Some were "ping"ers and had transmission problems with the 3650 trans. Pick the nicest one you can find in a 99/01 or wait a little while and you may find a nice '03. I'm waiting for the '06/'07 Cobra myself. My $.02

LOL well since you're on that coast, you'll be able to find an 01 way cheaper than out here. Mine is Zinc Yellow, 1 of 347 coupes actually. But basically, out there, you can find an 03 for maybe 4k more than you'd pay for an 01. To me, thats worth it. I only wish I had kept my 03 GT and waited a few more months to buy an 03 Cobra. Then I'd be happy. (for a few months)
