I was just wondering becuase my car goes 143mph + and was wondering if someone might have put a chip in it.... Another reason I was thinking that is becuase the pax side kick panel has been removed.

You sure, because im very certain the gt's are NOT goverened what so ever.
I am absolutely certain of it. I know for a fact that my 99 v-6 had a governor at ~115 MPH because i hit it many times, and there was an article about it in car + driver. If they are gonna put one in the V6 because of safety concerns then i guarantee they put one in the GT. Not to mention the fact that virtually every chip manufacturer (Diablo, Superchips, Autologic...etc) advertises the removal of the speed limiter as one of the modifications that is done to the stock program.

The only 99+ GT's that I know of that are governed are the ones that were originaly sold with 16 inch wheels, this was due to the stock 16 inch tire not being Z rated.

Thats what Ive always thought. Why would they govern them at 152 if they can barely go that fast to begin with?

Nope....absolutely positively no speed governor what so ever! The V6 is a different story because quite frankly the 3.8L engine is a piece of crap and Ford egg heads were worried about some dummy holding it open for a long period of time and it flying apart.

RTRMustangGT, your friend is confusing the Automatic GT, with the Automatic Mach 1, which does have a top speed governor of 135mhp.

Once again, the '99s with the ugly-ass 16" wheels and crappy tires with low speed rating were governed. Its been discussed plenty of times because people have had trouble getting a base-line dyno because the car won't pull past a certain speed because the EEC thinks the car is moving faster than its allowed to go.

However, the '02 should not be governed.

V6's are goverened to 115MPH because of the tires, same goes for the 99-00 GT that come with the 16" wheels. They have a tire with a speed rating of only 115 so they are governed to that.

AN '02 Gt comes with 17" tires and z-rated tires. No governor.

Also, i think mach 1's and 03+ cobras are limited to 155 MPH due to aerodynamic instability

Diablo says 170 MPH :)

02 GTs are speed limited... but at 180 mph :D

Mike

I thought it was 170. :p Nah, I'm just goin' by what my Diablo says when I take the speed limiter off. It says something about the vehicle being able to go 170 MPH. The manual says don't do it unless you have tires rated for it (of course).

I have a 99 GT with those ****ty 16 inchers and have had it goin faster than 115. One thing that is definite is that the 03 Cobra is governed at 155, due to the fact they think the car will come right off the ground goin much faster.
