replacing my fuel pressure regulator

dirty laundry time:

i bought the C&L 80mm meter 1 1/2 years ago, back when i had a 1996 gt. it was calibrated for a 1996 with stock injectors. since it is not for a 94/95, they can't give me a flow sheet for my setup for this meter. but i intend to use it anyway. the electronics fit perfectly, so that is not an issue.

money is too tight to buy another meter.

i have been thinking that once i got my injector settings right, then that factor would go from being a variable to being a constant, at which time the only variable left would be the meter, and i could determine the flow myself. then i could dial that in and i'd be good. sounds like that logic doesn't fit the real world?

I could not even start to be of any help with a C&L maf.

I have seen maf transfer curves for them but just can't remember which site. I bet a little searching on your part would pay off with your effort in dialing it in.

I've seen threads where some have tried everything they can think of like clocking, various sample tubes and such as well as pcm value adjustments and finally give up on making them work.

Funny thing is some have no trouble at all with them. Maybe you will luck out and be in the no trouble at all camp.

hey man........that thing looks familiar...............

anywho......i know what the o-rings look like and they are fine.......just put some vaseline or something on them make for an easier install because they will stay in place and it will also prolong their life......keep em from drying out as fast

really all you have to do is remove vacuum lines....allen screws.......pull out the old one......then lube the o-rings make sure they stay put in the right spot so they don't move or it will leak......

push the regulator down into the rail......the replace screws through regulator into rail, tighten.....reinstall vacuum lines.......and you are good to go.....

oh yeah as said either don't turn the ignition on for a while or relieve the pressure from the line by using the schrader valve.

Easy as pie. man...

Or you can go the easiest way to release fuel pressure which is turn on the car and let it run, pop the trunk, disconnect the fuel inertia switch and let the car run until it runs out of fuel. Then you should still have a little residual fuel in the fuel rails, so put a rag under the regulator when you take it off, but it shouldnt be much. :nice:
i was looking at the disconnect switch, and it wasn't obvious how to disconnect it. is there a harness somewhere i pull off or something?

update: i got the "new" one on. no problems and the gas smell is gone. i ended up using the gasget that was on the bad one because it covered alot more of the connection and it really looked like it would make a much better seal.

thanks to everyone for your help. and thanks to jason (mytight95) for setting me up with his stock fpr.

i have two questions though:

the vaccuum tube seemed loose on the end that is up under the intake. it was connected, but it did not seem very snug and i was wondering if i should replace the hose with a new one?

also, it felt like there was what looked and felt like motor oil or something on it the same hose near the connection under the intake. could it be oil and what would leak oil like that under the intake?

i just did mine today in under 10 min to include setting the fuel pressure. Hope this helps

Check the size of that Oring looks like the wrong one theres one that stays in the hole i pointed the loose one to. if u took that O ring off the old FPR then look in the hole to see if it is still there.

1. there should be a clamp on there the ones u squeeze to remove

2. that is the pcv valve line. It ventilates the Crankcase so it does tend to get oil through it. look at the pcv end of it you may need to replace or clean it.

thanks for the reply, but i meant these 2 questions:

1) the vaccuum tube seemed loose on the end that is up under the intake. it was connected, but it did not seem very snug and i was wondering if i should replace the hose with a new one?

2) there was what looked and felt like motor oil or something on the same hose near the connection under the intake. could it be oil and how worries should i be?

Yeah, I would replace it if it seems loose. That hose is connected to the PCV valve at the back of your lower intake. The oil you see is coming up through the pcv valve from the crankcase. A little bit is normal. (you wouldn't normally see it if the hose wasn't loose)

I answered those in my second post sorry i was late on the first one.

The wiring harness that plugs into the bottom pulls out. Not sure how it works with the car running then pulling it works never tried that but if you pull it and try to start the car it won't start at least mine never does

Wow I look like one of the icons right now...

hey :stick: are i lost??? :nonono:
