Can anyone here tell me if the 2000 model GTs came with any type of rustproofing from the factory and if so, how good is it? Im looking into rustproofing for the upcoming winter but Id like to know what I have already and how good/bad it is before I fork over the bucks. Any help? Thanks.

I think Ford calls it paint.

However your car is now should be fine. I've been through a winter or two with mine, ridiculous amounts of salt and all. No rust, except for that surface rust whatever the hell it is on the rear axle (that just about everybody has).

The rustproofing package, was a dealer, not a Ford option. Most, usually had to pay extra for it and very seldom did they throw it in for free. There was no standard rust proofing packages sold with the car though. One good way to find out is to check out all the rust prone seams to see if there's a "caramel" looking substance on them. That's the stuff! :nice: And if they were really good, they actually drilled various holes throughout the body to internally spray the really hard to get places, but that definitely wasn't free.

I believe that most cars have a zinc treatment, prior to paint, to prevent rust.
This type of treatment is quite effective (hence the longer warranty period).

I personally would not have a dealer applied tar/asphalt type undercoating applied to my car. If you choose to have it done, I would make sure the undercarriage is very clean and dry prior to the application.
