Massachusetts NEEDS a Dragstrip!

Man, I've been going up to New England Dragway (Epping, New Hampshire) since I was 8 years old. Let me tell you, that 2-1/2 hour drive up there is getting old!

I don't know how to go about this, but somehow, we need to come together and find a way to make a dragstrip in the central Mass (Norton/Easton?) area. That would be a perfect location. It'll be fairly close to Cape Cod, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Positioned right alongside route 495, it'll be perfect!

Everyone concedes that street racing is dangerous, yet the new cars (and homebuilt) cars keep getting faster and more powerful. There is no place for all of us to race and enjoy this sport. Why? I realize that it's loud, but if placed in a great location, the noise would be minimal.

This dragstrip could be a top of the line dragstrip, with a performance shop, dyno, auto parts store, the works.

Let's keep this thread going until we get what we need! Anyone with me? Anyone know how we can make this happen?

I agree that MA could use a dragstrip but I don't think it will ever happen. Too many people are against it because it's "too loud or too dangerous" yet these people dont know $hit about racing and all the precautions that are taken when you get to the track. Where in MA are you? I live in Springfield and Lebanon Valley Raceway is only an hour away. It's in NY but honestly an hour drive, easy to get to and alot of people racing. It's probably 35-40 minutes past the Lee Outlets.

I'm actually in Wareham, by the Cape Cod Canal. Sringfield is about 2 hours from here, meaning that Lebanon Valley is close to 3! Making New England Dragway at 2.5 a tad bit closer. Still, it S***S! We need one now!

Yea Wareham is a hike from here... I'm still backing you up w/ the dragstrip in MA though.

When I was in hs I had to do a project in a business class and I thought about this, and like you I wanted it to be more than a dragstrip. A place where our type wants to hang out and race safely! , could have music there, car shows you guys now what I mean...everything we car guys/gals like. I thought the only way to get it passed was to prove that it will help make more responsible drivers and not race on the street, but lets face it, most of us cant drive all the way up there to race safely and legally. So I dunno but if someone with the money and clout could somehow prove that it will reduce traffic deaths and such than maybe it would pass...I mean there must be land available where noise would not be an issue. quite frankly it would be music to my ears :)

POTENTIAL CENTRAL MASS DRAG STRIP....

Central Mass Drag Racers has been contacted by a developer who is looking for supporters for building a track at the now non-commerical Worcester Airport. They have already started doing sound testing to determine if it would meet the allowable sound ordinances. It has been discussed that the runway could become the actual dragstrip. The runway is situated in a valley that would likely provide enough sound barrier but the last I heard on that was in July.

Since Moscoffian's runs the Summer Nationals in Worcester, I would think that they would be advocating this potential dragstrip. It would be nice to not be crowded into the tunnel next to the Crown Plaza for the burnouts,etc...

The developers were loooking for supporters to attend the planning board meetings, but I don't have any dates for this yet. As I get more info, I will post it here.

That is damn good. I have a buddy who supposedly off roads there. Have yet to see any actual evidence though. He is somewhat of a story teller.

I have also heard about them making the Worcester airport into a dragstrip. I also remember in 1992 they were going to build a dragstrip in Warren,MA. The town's people were totally against it. It passed the sound level test in Feb. when there was no leaves for buffing the sound. It finally got shot down due to the developer/owner did not have a license to have a dragstrip. So he went and bought or is partner with Lebanon Valley.

That would be nice and hope it's a 1/4 mile track and not 1/8 mile. Unfortunately, I have my doubts MA will ever have a strip because ther are too many liberals and winers! Then again the Red Sox did win last night so maybe times are changing?

yea it would be nice to have a strip here at home in mass. i live in middleboro and ned isnt a bad drive but still to have one round here would be sick. it would get us outta the industrial parks of the area and less people would get hurt but of course the people who dont know bout racing are to thick ****n skulld to realize this. hey hissn cobra i liek ive seen ur car in plymouth and i saw it a fun ford jsut wanted to tell ya things sick good job. :nice:

they tried to use the old Fall River airport as a site for a dragstrip and when it came up for a vote of course it got shot down. It's ok to land planes and helicoptors which are a hellava lot louder, but when it comes to cars racing its out of the question. nobody wants a strip in their backyard despite the fact the local economy could stand to benefit greatly by it. it's the same as arguing for a casino in this state. we just continue to watch surrounding states rake in the cash at theirs and collect from the surrounding states as well. Our state is way too full of liberal politicians which the older crowd will not let out of office. until that changes this state will never have a dragstrip or casino to collect some nice tax money from and provide more jobs to help with the unemployment.
