clutch blew up with 7000 miles

my clutch blew up with only 7000 miles on it and 8 passes down the track. haven't been to the track in about 2 months and all of the sudden during normal driving the king corba clutch let loose. the entire pad on the pressure plate side seperated from the disk. i don't have the receipt and i put it in my self so i know the install was correct. is there any way i can get anything back from ford or am i just going to have to eat this one. the pads arent worn. they just came apart. i am putting in a center force. anyone thinking about getting a new clutch, stay away from the king cobra. alst i looked at the disk and it looks exactly the same as a stock disk. does ford use the same disk with the king cobra kit and just change the pressure plate? any help is great. thanks.

Wow...at least u got 7k out of yours. Mine lasted 2 months! Broke it in, made a few 1/4 mile runs, came unbonded on the fwy one night.

Just like yours, the disc surface was fine...just came apart!

Installed a CenterForce dual friction 700 miles ago and it is AWESOME!!

King Cobra clutch does NOT like power shifts! Waste of my time and money.

What is the king cobra clutch, is it different than the stock clutches in the 99-01 cobras??

More holding power, like 2400lbs vs 1400lbs or somewhere in that range. Basically, just a heavy duty stock replacement made by Valeo.

I would replace stock WITH stock if the King Cobra were my only other choice.

I think your just going to have to eat the cost. I sure hope my King Cobra lasts, I just installed mine a couple months ago, and took it to the track with 250 miles on her, and made about ten passes. Now it has about 2,800 miles on it. The clutch doesn't really feel any stronger than stock. I wish I would have just forked up the money for the centerforce.

My ford racing king cobra clutch lasted 3k miles till the clutch disc came apart. I personally have seen two other 96-98s cobras with the same clutch come apart in a matter of a few thousand miles. As far as I can tell the stock clutch on a 96-98 cobra is a "king cobra clutch", the numbers match right up. I think valeo's has had huge quality problem with building these 10.5" clutch discs lately. It just too common to hear about people having the same failure now.
For a clutch you might want to look into a McLeod. I run one in my 96 and really love it. I upgraded to an 11" pressure plate and clutch setup at the sametime.

you do know that there is about a 500 mile break in period before hard driving. i hope yours lasts.
