98 GT, Intake manifold.

I own a completely stock automatic 1998 Mustang GT. My car was pouring out radiator fluid and water where the (radiator hose?) meets the intake manifold. So I suspected it was a bad thermostat gasket. So I went out and bought one and when I unbolted the piece from the intake manifold I could see a 2 inch crack in the manifold itself. Whoever came up with the idea to make an intake manifold plastic should be shot. Ridiculous. Anyways, I need suggestions on a cheap PI intake manifold; also if you could estimate a rwhp increase with the PI intake I’d appreciate it. I don’t want a plastic manifold, only metal suggestions please.

well you can get the PI intake with the metal crossover from gefracing for $189 brand new plus shipping. or you can search for a used one...I would estimate the gain of anywhere from 10-20rwhp from the intake manifold....mostly in the upper rpm's.
 
Same thing happened to me only while driving hard and heard a noise. Low coolant light came on and I was like oh **** !

Anyway go with PI, looks like stock but has metal lined runners. Thats the one I got when it happened to me...didnt really notice much difference but hey at least the car ran.

typical, you're not alone. the cheapest way is the PI intake and spacer combo. or you can do what alot of us had and that is do a complete PI headswap. you can pick up the complete kit for $1340 from parkway ford. it's your choice.
 
Same thing happened to me a 73,000 miles. took it to ford to get the "Defective" part fixed and they charged me900 dollars. i was pissed!!!! well now i am being called to court next months for a law suit on it against ford and i should get a full refund, then all that cash is going toward NITROUS!!
 
you do not need the spacers I did my swap for under $200 that included EVerything including the intake.......if you do it without the spacers you just need to use the NPI gaskets and some RTV in a few places.....mine has been on since may and is going strong even through the dead heat of summer
 
There are some aluminum manifolds out there for our cars but they are expensive...like over 1200 bucks. Not worth it unless you paln on harcore racing.

Just find a good used PI Intake and do like ChadS98 said. A lot of guys have done this with no problems. Do a search for PI intakes swap and you should come up with numerous posts on parts and how-to's.
 
I thought that the 98 intake had the same shape as the 99 heads. And let me tell you you can get a Bullitt intake for about 885 and then for the rest of the things you need to install it you are looking at 700 or more not a real bargin.
 
Without the aluminum adapter plates, how do you guys make more power w/ the PI manifold? The intake ports have totally different shapes don't they? I would think you would lose power if anything because of turbulance created by the mismatched ports. I'd appreciatte any info on this. Thanks

What the older guys tell me is that the PI intake has much longer runners. If you look at the two, the PI intake drops much farther into the valley between the piston banks. So far down that you need to reroute your heat tube for clearance. The turbulence is overcome by the speed of the air charge I guess. Matching would help but may not be worth the effort.
