How do you guys feel about the racket the transmission makes in first and second gears?
I just bought an '04 and so far I'm loving the car(just not the payment!). It does make a lot of noise, though, in 1st and 2nd gear. I've been trying to get the dealer to fix, but so far no luck. There is a TSB about the problem and the parts have been ordered for the car. Does everyone's sound like this? If so, has anyone got a reasonable explanation why? It's my only complaint about an otherwise awesome car.

hehe...

Well maybe I can shed some light on this!

My T-56 is noisy and growls and what ever... But it makes the EXACT same noises that all my LS1 powered T-56 cars made!

And all the noises I hear are perfectly normal of a T-56 and will probably get louder as time goes on.

Go drive a LS1 with 30k+ miles on it and you will know what Im talking about.

I think ya might be worried about notin' ;)

I've had 60's era muscle cars and frankly I didn't even notice anything unusual.
The only thing that's kinda annoying is the drivetrain backlash, I feel I have to drive differently to minimize it. My daughters F350 6-spd. diesel 4x4 has less slop in it. Having IRS should not be an issue.

You should look into the MGW short throw shifter to help with this :D (yeah, I know its not the root of your problem). Its the only Shifter out there that is quiet out of the box. http://www.mgwltd.com/george/SHIFTERORDER.jpg (if you have IE6, you will need to tell it to expand the pic so you can actually read it)

as far as the 03, I regret not jumping on a Mineral Gray while they were new

:(

This is a fine car, to be sure. I have no problems with noise in any gear. My problem is with the stall. I have had the computer reflashed and the intake air control (I believe that is what it is called.) replaced and it still happens.

Other than that, it runs like a dream. It goes on five or six two thousand mile trips a year. I doesn't get the mileage of my '99 'vert, but who cares?

No regrets here.

Well, I regret buying mine. You get tired of people asking you about it, having to show it off to friends, at every red light someone wants a race...... and you beat them everytime. That all gets tiring after awhile... think I'll go buy a nice used Taurus.....LOL.....

I do regret buying the car. Its a lot of fun but I have had more problems with this car than any other vehicle I have ever had. New or used. I also seriously doubt the long term reliability of the vehicle and I worry how spendy the fixes will be once it is out of warranty.

Granted there are not too many low 12 second street cars you can buy new for around $35K including mods. But, a lot of the failures and problems I've experienced are not mod related and not due to the way I drive. Plus, they made too many of them. In my group of friends I can count more than six 03 Cobra owners. It isn't such a special car anymore and the resale value has tanked.

Don't get me wrong, I like the car, but I just wish it was built better. If the car was totalled, I would probably buy either a 2005 Mustang GT or a restored 1968 Mustang fastback. I like the way they look better than my Cobra. Yes, the power would be less but anything can be made to go faster... :flag:
