Checkout the new short-throw shifter from MGW

coooooool
I like how it is tilted way back toward the driver... so you don't have to freaking lean forward to shift

if it only came out 3 years ago. and some posters say the throw is even shorter than anything already out?

Great Gazoo? I was thinking more along the lines of a biblical "Doubting Thomas". Once you actually touch some MGW parts, you'll become a believer. They are by far some of the most finely machined parts I've seen. Like JonJon, I have the adjustable handle on my Pro 5.0 and couldn't be happier. Its never come loose or swiveled and I doubt this new one will either.

I installed it in my ride on Sat. This shifter is unreal. If you have an aftermarket shifter, place your car in 2nd. That's where 4th is with the MGW shifter.

Shifting is smooth, not notchy. The progressive springs are nice and stiff, so you shouldn't have any issues with finding 3rd.

I have picts of the install, just waiting for my bud to upload them from his camera. :)

I had a Pro 5.0 for 100k+ miles, and it doesn't hold a candle to MGW's. The shifter noise is gone, the throws are short, and it's made like a fine watch.

To sum it up. It feels like a shifter belongs in a high end car. Very solid. Very little play if any. George asked me if I had any complaints.....and I have none. It's everything an aftermarket shifter SHOULD be.

HIGHLY recommended.

If you dont want to drop $200 right now, or swap the aftermarket shifter you currently have...then you must check out the MGW handle. I put it on my Pro 5.0 and I dig it. Here is a review...

Here is the MGW kit

Right out of the box you can feel how heavy and solid this thing is. It has a hard coat anodized aluminum body with a high tensile strength steel shaft that rotates AND telescopes (in and out) to accomodate any reach or hand position...I can now adjust the knob to exactly where I want it!

Check out the difference between the Pro 5.0 and the MGW side-by-side...

The thick heavy body reduces transfered sonic vibration from the tranny (definitley quieter), and seems to improve the smoothness of the shifts from the Pro 5.0 handle.

MGW gives you a choice of using thin rubber washers or a thick rubber flange gasket to use when installing the handle. Since I dont plan to ever have my car on a racetrack, I used the flange gasket rather then the washers...and not only does it transfer less sound from the tranny than the Pro 5.0 handle did (which I used a gasket on as well), it transfers less heat (I was going to say "my knob doesn't get warm anymore", but I knew where that would go...lol).

The other thing I REALLY liked was that it uses standard 1/2" bolts rather than metric hex bolts

...you can get a much tighter fit using a socket wrench as opposed to a hex key (I realize you can use socketed hex keys, but I dont have them).

The bolts on the Pro 5.0 had already started to vibrate loose (slightly) after only two-weeks...which is why I like the fact that MGW included lock washers AND locknuts for extra security anainst loosening. This picture also shows that I used a few of the additional stackable washers they include for eliminating any gap between the shift boot and knob. The top of the boot now rests flush against the knob!!

I apologize for carrying on so much about a shift handle...but I DIG THIS THING!! It has made a significant difference in the feel and function of my Pro 5.0!! In fact, I can now say that I would NOT recommend the Pro 5.0 shifter WITHOUT a different handle from the one included in the box...and the MGW is the one I would (highly) recommend.
