I have intermittent clutch chatter at 58000 miles. I dont drive my car all that hard but when I hammer it I speed shift and dump the clutch pretty hard. I have only had the car since 36000. Is the chatter from dumping the clutch hard or sliding it( which I don't do). Is there anyway to prolong it from this point? Thanks.

sliding wears the clutch more but is easier on the driveline (trans, diff, axles, etc.). sometimes they last 40k, other people get over 100K, you don't know about the 1st 36k of use so hard to say.

once it starts it is there but can last that way for long time if you don't abuse, i drove a CRX around for 3 years with slight chatter and it never seemed to get worse or better in that time. your results may vary.

make sure you pull up on the clutch pedal, this engages the self adjusting mechanism.
