Pics of My GT w/Stripes, Tinted Windows & Spoiler Delete

About the stripes - they are vinyl. My plan was to put the vinyl on for a few months to make sure I like them and then get them painted (so many purists here have talked down tape). However, once I saw the job that the shop did, I'm not so sure I need to get them painted. They look great even up close in bright sunlight! Cost was $350 labor & parts. Some guys mentioned side stripes and I like the look of either top or side by themselves, but together I think it's too much.

Windows-the only problem with the tinting is that you can't open the wondows for 24-48 hours after the tinting is applied to allow the film to dry completely. After that they work as normal. As with the striping, make sure you use a reputable shop that guarantees their work.

Mirrors - since I was at a vinyl shop, painting the mirrors to match the body was not an option. I have considered it but, according to the Ford rep at the Chicago auto show, because the mirrors are situated inside the window space, they are designed to be dark to "dissapear" into the window in profile. I think it works especially well with the tinted windows and I don't plan on painting them.

Rims-Yeah, I'm not happy with the factory choices either. I thought these were the best that was offered in the 17" size, but I plan to upgrade this winter. Still trying to decide what to go with, but I won't go larger - don't want to lose any performance or have ride issues and I think that too big a wheel makes for a thin, prissy looking tire. I want to keep the tough look.

The car- I ordered it from Weinman Ford on the north side of Chicago on May 26th, the first day that Ford was accepting orders - It may seem that I got the car early, but I actually waited in line for 6 months. I paid $27K & change, sticker price. As soon as the aftermarket catches up I plan to add a small, ducktail spoiler (I don't like the look of a wing) and maybe window scoops. Once the engine shakes out (after 2-3000 miles) I'll be looking into a supercharger and a new exhaust system from the headers back. My goal is 400 horsepower! :nice:

Sorry to be so wordy, but let me know if you guys have any other questions and I'll try to answer them if I can.

I think you miss understood my question about the autodrop windows.

You see when you open the door the window drops just a bit, Im concearned that this might affect the window tint. The tint shop might not relize this and not tint the whole window, or the autodrop might start the window tint to peel off the glass.

Auto drop - sorry I misunderstood. This feature posed no problem. The tinting material actually extends a fraction of an inch below the rubber sealing strip at the bottom of the wondow when it is fully closed (how the shop did this, I don't know) so the window going up and down that fraction of an inch when you open/close the door wasn't a problem. My last car had the same feature and the tinting worked the same way.

Stripes - 10' stripes with a 2" gap. I'm told this is the same measurements used when this type of striping was originally put on mustangs in the 60's, but I can't verify that. I just like the way it looks.

You can place a piece of tape on the door sensor and/or take out the fuse. Look in your Owners Manual for the location of the fuse, page 160. It should be #5 & 7 (30amp fuses).

The stipes were done at Xtreme Graphics in Villa Park. (Be forwarned, I paid $150 for 2 hours of labor because that's what they estimated. It was actually more like three hours and he did say they'll need to raise the price). I bought the stripes form edecals.com, but Xtreme Graphics has the same materials. The windows were done at Pilsen Auto Glass on Western Ave. In Chicago. They charged $180 parts & labor.

Looks good, I am debating between silver, black, and blue paint. Definitely paint your mirrors silver i would look real clean, and you will never just look at your car in a profile view, always 3D.

i tinted my 05 2 weeks ago, all you have to do is trip the door latch with a screwdriver, it keeps the windows up while tinting. BMW and mercedes have done this for years. i do have one concern, the inner door sills are the same as the ones on the small 2 door mercedes. after about a month the seals start to scratch the tint, i hope the mustangs dont develop this problem, because we tint alot of mustangs.

Beautiful car!!! Actually, the original Shelby stripes on the 65 and 66 cars were not the same size all the way back, they got wider as it approached the windshield, stayed that same width over the roof, then narrowed as they went down the back of the trunk and rear end. Saw a special on it one night. The difference was only an inch or so but made a big difference in appearance.

Your car looks awesome! Needed to be Comp Orange though :nice: :nice:

AAHHH!
You're driving my car! I wanted a Comp. Orange Cobra so bad I thought it would kill me!

As much as I want to put stripes on an '05, there's just been a little something that has bothered me about them.
I wonder if that's what it is.
How hard would it be to do something similar in vinyl?
I will definately keep the tapered stripe in mind when mine comes in.

Jason

If you've got a good vinyl shop, doing the tapered stripes should be no problem. Most of the shops I've seen design the pattern on a computer and then a machine cuts the pattern out from 3 foot wide vinyl that comes on a roll. Just find a good shop and ask if they can do it.

If you're a huge fan of Competition Orange, why don't you just paint your 05 orange and get the stripes painted on at the same time?

It's a little expensive to completely change the color of the whole car.
I'd rather spend that several thousand doloars on other mods to the car.

Where did you find that Sainted? I new there was only an inch or so difference but it makes a huge difference visually. That's why the Shelby's always looked a little different.
