Just went to Hoffman Ford in Easst Hartford, CT today and they had a black on black GT with Bullits for $25k plus $595 for "Simonize" (sp?) and a $3k market value adjustment! Ouch $29900.....

I really can't believe they can do that. But as a friend once told me, there is an A** for every seat!!!

I think its sick what they do with these cars. I hope NO-ONE in their right mind will buy that thing for that price. Especially considering that the "Market Adjustment" (due to availability I would guess) will be around for a short time considering the 30,000-50,000 Mustang GT's scheduled to be built this year.

Christ, $29,900 is only $1,100 less than my 10th Ann Cobra was. That car is a perfect exampl eof why you dont pay these "Market Adjustments". My 03 had a $5000 MA added onto its MSRP for a total of $41,500!!!! The dealer sold one for that price in June 2003, I paid over $10,000 LESS in Sept 2003, only waited 3 months and saved that $10,000 over that poor sap that just HAD TO HAVE IT as soon as it came in.

Unfortunately there are always those with “more money than brains” as my great Grand-dad used to say.

People who will buy at marked-up prices like that IMHO fall into two categories:

1. Folks who grew up privileged and always “got what they wanted when they wanted it”. Most of these have never done a real day’s work in their lives.

2. Folks who can afford it because they made their money by the “sweat of their own brows”, and as such have earned and deserve the things they have.

In my mind that still doesn’t explain why anyone in either of those categories would be willing to waste money like that, when probably a simple 4 or 5 month wait will do away with the supply and demand issue that allows this dealer mark-up nonsense in the first place.

I sat in a Sonic Blue ’05 GT at a local dealer yesterday. First one they got in. Salesman asked me if I was interested in buying today. I told him I wouldn’t be interested in buying until the $2,995.00 dealer markup comes off of the cars. He just wandered off down the lot in search of someone from the above two categories.

I don't know which is worse. $595 for a $50 wax job or $3K for the privilige of being the first on your block to own one.

To quote Nancy Regan:

JUST SAY NO

Fortunately I dealt with a fair dealer in NY that I had done previous business with. "Bob" placed my order back in May and I just picked up my 05 GT last Friday. I thought that the $1000 over dealer invoice was fair given that this was the very first car this dealer ordered and received. IMHO it pays to develop relationships and work with fair and honest folks. (He even told me that "other" dealers were going to be asking List Price plus when they first become available).

Could I have gotten a better deal - sure, maybe if I had haggled a bit, but I felt that the invoice plus $1000 was fair for this dealer's first car. Also note that my car never even sat in their showroom and they still don't have their 2nd car in yet.
