I’ve got my engine apart now. Are the stock oil pump gears as bad as a lot of people say they are? If so, I guess I’ll upgrade them, but they want $250.00US+ for the hardened gears. Can I not just install a new stock set, or am I just asking for trouble? How many have experience failure?

yes, yes, friggin yes go billet. I was worried about spending the cash on the billet gears but was so happy when I saw at least 3 fail on high horsepower cars.

Well, I don't expect my horsepower levels to exceed 425-435 at the flywheel. I'm just concerned if they're warranted or not. Where did you get yours and what did you pay for them?

I got mine from Modular Powerhouse. Its good insurance and you will be kicking yourself if you have to yank the motor again just to replace the gears. I have seen at least 3 sets fail personally. I got Billet gears from I forget who and I think they were close to $300 for everything. That may have included the billet crank trigger. Sorry I forgot. Call Rhonda and tell them RJ sent ya. 770-751-0333.

Yeah I know, it's just all the $300.00 here and $200.00 there that are starting to turn my simple little rebuild/beef up into a full-on financial investment. :D

Yeah, it’s not my first. Only I’m slowly realizing that mod motors cost considerably more than pushrods when it comes to…..anything. Now I pretty much just take the cost of whatever it would have cost to replace/upgrade the part on my old 5.0 LX and triple it. That usually puts me in the ballpark. :(

 Yeah, I know what you mean. :(

I wish the modulars could do the insane amounts of N/A power the big pushrods can. :(
