The official "How fast is it?" thread...

Temperature is listed, 78 degrees.

What is missing, is whether this is a MTX or an ATX, the altitude and whether this is a experienced driver of a novice.

Doesn't it say 5 speed manual at the bottom right hand side?

oops, I didn't scroll down, didn't even realize that there was more data.

We need more times from ATX cars so we can understand the driver factor.

we all know, or should know, that the 60' is everything with regards to ET....

when looking at this slip, I'm looking at the temp, altitude and MPH.... that run was done in south florida, it's humid and 78 degrees... which can account for the lower MPH than the "magazine" got....

the car certainly has enough power to pull 1.8's.... with a decently prepped track, decent driver on a cooler night, I'm think the the 05 GT can hit mid 13's....

what more do you want... it's the GT, not the Cobra... :) :) which can probably keep up with pre-03 cobras.....

The problem is that there's too much speculation here. I have yet to see a consistant mid to low 13 second 05' on any major Mustang website/magazine/reality. Motor Trend somehow got a 13.6 out of an auto which IMO should expect no less! Yet, what we do see everywhere is people saying... "I'll bet it runs mid 13's no prob" or "with a tune it should hit 300rwhp" or "it's still too new to know" or "we don't know the track prep, altitude, weather, etc". I could go on and on. As I said in my above post...no later than next week me and my bud will be taking the 05' (stick) to Rockingham for some vids.

Someone on the Corral mentioned all it would take to get an 05' with auto to run 12's is a tune, 3.73's, and drag radials. If you look at it that way, that's a pretty simple combo for big numbers. I believe that a MTX-equipped should run no worse than a 13.5 unless the driver is a beginner or simply not driving aggressively enough. I'm toying with the idea of bringing slicks to the track to squeeze every ounce I can out of it.

It is cooler this time of year so people should be running better times. So maybe these cars just don't run the 1/4 too well and are better in the 1/8th.

Then again, maybe its true that people who buy Fords can't drive?

But it is suspect that we havn't seen a mid 13s time even though we have claims that this car puts down 300+HP to the ground.

I'm calling BS on this car till I see more proof, and I am willing to change my mind once I see the slips etc...

low to mid 13's stock??? you won't see this..... not enough power....

while every one speculates, i am out running mine every weekend. 3 weeks ago i was running 14.2's, now i'm running 13.6's . i cut consistent 1.93 sixty foots and each week the car goes faster. keep in mind it still doesnt even have 700 miles on it. once it gets broke in, it WILL run low 13's bone stock.

updated drag times

hey fellas, just lettin ya know i ran 13.69 @99.75 with 1.93 sixty. i was running my 93 coupe also so i didnt make but 2 runs with the 05. the car has almost 700 miles now, weather was cold, and car was 3760#'s with me. my wife ran a 14.3 @ 100.68 in it .

a lot of you are forgetting that weight has something to do with mph. I saw the one guy saying his 98 formula ran 106 mph. I have about 10 friends with f-bodies and all of theirs weigh in around 3300 lbs. The new mustang is about 3500 lbs. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it something like every 75 lbs of weight you shed you pick up a tenth of a second in the quarter.

Congrats!

Thanks for the update and its great to here that the ETs continue to drop. Can you post the slip?

UPR's 05' Mustang First Time at the Track

With a little over 300 miles on the clock we decided to take the 2005 GT out to Moroso tonight to see what it can do before starting to change suspension and add some bolt ons.

Jeremy Martorella took on the driving duties and first few passes netted 14.0-14.1 passes at 97-99 MPH, 60 foots in the 2.0 range. He was leaving the line near 4K RPM and bogging the car. Second from the last pass he got out of the whole a little better and went 13.91 @ 99 MPH with a 2.02 60 foot. Last pass of the night he launched a bit higher and pulled a 1.89 60 foot time and the car went 13.78 @ 98.78! All these passes were done just slipping the clutch slightly, this new suspension set up really hooks.

This is a bone stock (plastic still on the seats and accessories) GT, fully loaded with nothing in the way of weight removal. Next time out we'll get it on the scales to get an idea of what these things weigh.

Bill

Thanks Bill, but I was hoping they would run a touch harder than that... 14s are kinda wimpy and a 13.78 isn't nothing to get excited about in my opinion. I have read a few mags that said 13.50-13.60, those are good numbers, but are they for real? I was hoping to hear that a good driver, not a magazine dork could hit some nice 13.50s, but it doesn't look like that's what's happening. I keep seeing high 13s to low 14s from private owners and "racers".

I think things will get better. I remember when the 03 cobra's came out everyone was super excited and people were only posting low 13's. Took a little bit of time before people started getting the times down. Example, guy at my local track back in 03 had his cobra there with 400 miles on it, ran a best of 13.4. same car with a few thousand miles on it was going 12.9. I don't know, maybe the 05's are gonna be 13.7 cars... Oh well, the GT hasn't really been more than that ever anyway, no need to hate the car, just get to modding it like we always have done before.

post your slip on that site so we can compare the numbers....

Help me out here with the technique. Can I assume a 5sp manual? What shift points did you use? Did out trap in 3rd gear or 4th? What RPM clutch drop speed? Did you powershift?

He does have a MTX.

Last week he said he 4 ran about 13.78 shifting @ 6K 1-2 & 2-3 and 5,200 3-4. This was faster than the week before where he stayed in 3rd for the whole run.

Interesting that his OL got a higher trap speed. I bet she was really short shifting.
