I instaled a Steeda Clutch Quadrant and had q question. My lutch doesn't grab till it is almost all the way off the floor, like maybe an inch before the pedal would just be in normal position. Is this normal. Is that the correct release?

Is It going to hurt if I drive it?
I would not drive it. If your clutch is not releasing until it is all the way at the top then it has too much tension on it. (Kind of like riding the clutch). It is like you are pushing the clutch in half way all the time.

oK, so i went outside and was finishing up a few things, drove it around the block before seeing the reply not to drive it. Well it drove fine but I understand what you mean about it being like I was riding the clutch. So the fix would be the firewall adjuster?

Also I noticed on the firewall where the clutch cable is the screw is missing to hold it still there. it is not coming of the wall, it is snug, but would that have any say in this mess?

Also since i do most of the work myself, even though i am not qualified would the adjuster go on the inside or outside of the firewall??? How much work is this going to be? I already changed the clutch quadrant and the clutch cable.

Ummmm... I've got a question and/or comment about a suggested fix I just saw above about a firewall adjuster. If the cable and pedal are as he describes then how is a firewall adjuster going to make his cable any longer? All a firewall adjuster does is basically pull the cable insulation back from the end of the cable to simulate shortening the cable to tighten it. You're still going to need another adjustment on the cable if you're too tight or an adjustable cable (that is slightly longer) or if you've got a double hook quadrant then you can drop down to the next hook. THEN the firewall adjuster can bring it to proper adjustment. I don't believe that JUST a firewall adjuster will cure what ails it if you don't have another way to lengthen that cable. Just installing one will cause it to be roughly 1/8 in tighter at the lowest setting. Or... did I miss something?

This is the quick release.

This is the double hook.

You can go look under the dash and find out which one it is and we will know for sure.

I believe it is hooked on the innermost one, I will have to check it out tommorow morning to make sure. So if I just adjust it then my problems should be solved? I take it, it would not be safe to drive tonight about 20 miles?

It should. It will give your cable more length which should make your pedal grab closer to the floor.

As far as driving it that is up to you. If it feels like the clutch is grabbing all the way I think it should be ok. Just take it easy.

Well when I test drove it earlier it wasn;t slipping or anything, it was grabbing in all the gears and pulling. I didn't and won't be beating on it since it hasn;t been driven in 5 month. I just want to take her for a spn since I haven't in so long. Tommorow's agenda is chaging the fluids and adjusting that clutch quadrant. Thanks for all your help. Have a great weekend!
