New Mustang is slack. Lets pit Ford America against Ford Australia!!! *56k warning*

These cars directly converted to US dollars are quite expensive.
But look what happened to the Pontiac GTO. Over in Australia the Holden Monaro is sold for around $65,000 but in the states its sold under the Pontiac badge for $32,000 which is far cheaper in comparison for what we have to pay.

As a 4-door hater, I must admit those cars look nice. I would love to see those on the roads instead of the bland, never really changed Taurus, 500, Accord, Camry, Galant, and whatever other 4-door cars you can think of. That being said I would love to see that engine in the Stang, that thing seems like it would perform lovely. :nice:

It's sells? :D Last I heard they had plenty to choose from.

Give us Americans a break. Australians haven't had Ralph Nader busting their balls for 38 years.

:D

BTW, nice power in those rides. Too bad they all look like a bar of soap that got left in the tub too long.

Car & Driver tested an XR6 Turbo and liked it a lot. It costs twice as much as a base 05 Mustang.

The 2005 Ford Five Hundred is basically replacing the Taurus and Ford NEEDS a rwd sedan NOW. They can't forget Lincoln and Mercury though. They have 5 Lincolns and 6 Mercurys coming to the market over the next few years.

Here's the new Falcon ute:

I skipped over a bunch of posts, but the mustang has that thing killed in lookes. That looks like somebody just took a contour or some toyota something added a different front end. A ricy wing and a few other ricy things and called it good. It has no personality compared to the the new mustang.

Pffft yeah right. Find me a pic of one toyota that looks similar to this Ford.
It doesnt look ricey, thats just your biased opinion. What makes it ricey apart from the 'wing' you say?
Its more stylish than the mustang. The new mustang looks old hat, nothing special about it. Infact it looks like a squashed toad.

Okay sure, you might not agree that this is a sexy looking car but the stats on it are more creative than anything Ford of America has ever decided to make.
Engine: Turbocharged 4.0 litre 24-valve inline 6
Power output: 380hp @ 5250rpm
Torque: 420lb-ft @ 2000rpm
There arent any performance times available as of yet but you'd imagine this thing would pull circles around a Skyline.

Hell yeah, I just vacatined in Aus this last August. Man the whole place was rad. The Holdens Kicked ass too. Man its like the 60s over there. Lots of Aussie muscle. Fellow Yanks, we need to write some angry letters to detroit, I'm jus sayin...

Yeah...a turbo inline 6 is so much more creative than a twin screw supercharged DOHC V8.

Thats true. Looks like just some sedan with a wing on it, but that engine is awsome!

What type of fuel octane is required for the XR6 turbo? It's probably much higher than we can get at the pump here in the States. Emissions has a lot to do w/ it too.

XR6T uses 95 Octane PULP.
Actually the fuel octane in the states is higher than what it is here in Australia.
Plus we have stricter engine emission standards than you guys.

Don't forget the six is DOHC too, with VCT (variable camshaft timing). It can also run on ULP or PULP, detuning itself if the lower octane is used. Unleaded is 91 RON and Premium is 95 RON here. (You can get 98 though, BP sells it as Ultimate) As for smog, it gets over 18mpg according to the spec sheet. I'm not sure if that's good or bad in the US though.

As GTS_300 said, the RON octane rating of fuel is lower than the ONR or whatever it is that the US uses. So while we have 95 and 98 premium, it works out to about 93 and 96 or so.

EDIT: This page http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/octane.html says it best near the bottom. Most likely you guys rate pump fuel as an AKI (anti-knock index) and it shows down the bottom that an 89 AKI fuel is a 95 RON fuel.

Looks like ass, a 4 door GTO. Straight outta the 90's bubble styling.

Ya hit that nail on the head. GM clearly dropped the ball with the new Goat (drivetrain excepted!!!) What the US buying public did absolutely NOT want was another ho-hum "bubble car," as you put it. And with the exception of the mill, that is exactly what the new GTO is. Apparently attractive to the Aussies, but just another Pontiac Grand Am/Prix/Sunfire up here. Hence the crap sales numbers.

I believe that Ford US is going to hit a homer with the new stang. Gorgeous retro looks with modern features, power, and dependability we demand. Unmistakable up close or from a distance. They didn't rush an unstyled, albeit well-powered, commuter car up from the Lucky Country with few mods other than moving the steering wheel, slap a heritage name on it, and expect the US public to eat it up. Kudos Ford.

I seem to recall a different time when the Aussie cars shared certain characteristics with the US muscle than the Euro-cookie cutters - bold, clearly individual, head turning, undeniably sexy. Maybe I'm just showing my age, and of course to each his own, but those "sport sedans" shown above look a lot closer to what I'd expect the PTA board to be driving.

I'll take an older Aussie Ford anyday over one of those V8 Contours. Maybe something 1975ish? (with the right customizing of course!) :nice:
