Found Probe parts in local JY

While searching for fenders in the local JY I came across a 1990 2.2T probe. It has an intercooler that is in wonderful shape and a blowoff valve. The owner of the boneyard wants $10 for the IC and probably just a pittance for the BOV. These are soon going on my turbostang.

The question here is I also saw a vane air meter, a small IHI turbo, fuel injectors and some misc small items. Could any of them work on my car. I might try the small turbo to see if I like it better than my T3. I am also thinking about grabbing the fuel pump. Does anyone else here have any suggestions.

What is your setup currently? If you have a t3, id stay with it ..the ihi is a step down.
What injectors do you have?
Computer?

What time of bov is on the probe?
Remember ,it usualy takes a dual piston bov to work correctly on our setups.

It soudns like you found an 87-88 TC then? Grab the Brown top injectors, and big VAM off of that for sure. It never hurts to grab certain things like the TB, intakes, cooling fans, MAP ect. They WILL come in handy down the road, if not on your car to trade to someone for something you need. The fuel pump is not an upgrade but good for an extra if you want. The rear end in that car is an 8.8 posi with either 3.73's or like ?3.66's? or something like that. Also if it is a T5 it has a higher hp rating than the one on your stang.

Well, I got the intercooler and BOV from the probe. I paid $10 for the intercooler(which is in perfect shape), and another ten for a whole bunch of other goodies, including the BOV. I checked out the probe injectors and VAM. The injectors are white tops, so I left them, and the VAM has 6 or 8 prongs on it whereas ours have 4.

My setup is as follows;
85 TC 2.3 rebuilt
E3 (uncracked) manifold
PC1 computer
Small VAM
Garrett T3 (.63 trim)
Brown Top Injectors (35#ers)
Ranger Roller Cam
Stock Wastegate(boosting 9psi max)
Stock Mustang fuel pump (88lph)

When I get this intercooler and BOV on I am turning my boost up to 15psi. I will front mount it as was done on the probe.

As far as the BOV being dual piston, don't think it is (its made by denso, and is a kind of black plastic) but I think it may get me by until I can afford a better one. I will look at it a little better when I have it all cleaned up, the ID sticker on it is still very legible.

Thanks for all the info on this, I will try to keep this post up so others can learn too. Does anyone have a schematic they can post on how this setup should (VAM, to turbo, to IC, To TB)? The BOV on the probe seemed to dump the extra air into the vacuum side of the Turbo and there was a vaccuum line going from the turbo to the BOV. Does the BOV go between the IC and TB or between the Turbo and IC?

Probe IC is nice and thick. I wish it was little longer. I've seen Probe guys put two togheter.
White top injectors 330cc are an upgrade for 88-89 MX6/Probe 310cc injectors.

Probe/MX6 2.2 turbo is totally different engine from our Almighty 2.3L turbo engine.

I would not use Probe plastic bpv on your T3 set up. I have the APEXi bov between my T3 and IC. Find 1G Eclipse bov and crush it . It should hold up to 18 psi.

The Bypass valve can be run as a bypass valve or a blowoff valve. Whatever you choose. It doesnt matter where it is, there is lots of debate as to which is the best placement. You need to run a manifold vacuum line to the BOV/BPV. If you run it as a BPV then you pipe it into the intake (vacuum) side of the turbo.
