Gas Mileage

I can see 17 mpg in city driving but 17 on the highway?? Start out by doing a tune-up. Meaning change spark plugs, clean K&N, clean T/B, synthetic motor oil might help, and change the fuel filter. And you're using the overdrive gear correct?

remember not sure where you are from but winter gas is out now and you will get worse mileage. Me not getting on the car now is getting the same mileage as me romping the hell out of my car all fall and summer. You will also notice a longer start with 93 and winter gas

Hes right about the winter gas. My mileage went way down in the past few weeks. Driving just the same as always. Just highway with no damn traffic I can get about 22-24mpg now.

Well I drive 100 % city with a few WOT's along the way and get 15-16 mpg. However, when I do drive on the highway like to Palmdale raceway which is almost 2hrs away, I get like 18.9, but I'm also driving at 85-90 mph.

All I get is 20 out of my GT, I used to get 25. But I've installed a Vortech on the car and that's why I have lost some MPG. And it's a constant 20 on the highway, with and without AC...

BTW: I have a 99 GT with an automatic.

When you do the tune-up don't forget to clean the MAF sensor. Oil from the K&N will accumulate on the sensor wires and screw up the readings. Go easy on the oil when you clean your filter, most guys put on way too much. Oh, and make sure the filter is real dry after washing. I like to dry it for a day or 2, keep a stock paper filter around to use during this time. Just a few hints I found to work over the 20 years or so I've been using K&N's. :nice:

The d1ckh3ad that I bought the car from said they dont have to be tuned up until 100,000, guess I shouldnt have listened
I just tuned up my car again. I changed oil filter and topped off w/5w30 mobil 1 synthetic. Replaced fuel filter, spark plugs (NGK TR-55) remembered anti-sieze, and dialectic grease, PCV valve ($1.29), air filter.

Runs better, much smoother.

I recommend changing fuel filter every 15K, especially if you let your gas tank go to E between fill ups.

PCV is change insurance as I gotta get my car smogged last month.. oops.

If you run plantinum plugs, you can probably get 60K, but the copper plugs are cheap, and make the car idle and accelerate smoother.

Gonna get around to change tranny and diff fluid someday soon.
