srt-4/ procharger for 96 cobra?

I was talking to my instructor the other day in class, and he has a SRT-4 Stage 2. He has a 3 inch exhaust on it and has his laptop hooked up to it and thats it. He said he runs a 12.6. It made me mad. It hard to believe a dodge neon is faster than my cobra. (I never have ran the 1/4, but run low 11's in the 1000ft.) I dont know who had the idea to put a turbo on a neon, but they seem to be selling pretty good, as I am seeing quite a few of them around now. And they are probably about the fastest car you can buy for under 20 grand. I have been looking to make my cobra a little faster for a while now, and I think he sat it off, I am definatly going to do it now. I hear alot of good comments on the ati procharger for a 96-98 cobra, and think that is what im going to put on mine. Any comments on the procharger or other suggestions?

if you plan on doing a P1SC kit do yourself a huge favor and upgrade the head unit to a P1SC-2 right from the start. you have way more potential with this head unit for future growth without losing any tq or hp on the dyno. I did it on my 04GT and don't regret it one bit. I have every P1 car in my area covered by 40rwhp minimum.

the D1 gives up a ton of torque down low and average HP throughout the band unless on a car with decent flowing heads and cams. the -2 unit is very capable of 20lbs of boost but great average HP for daily driving on an otherwise stock motor. I wish I could post my dyno graphs so you could all see how it performs. I actually outdyno'ed 2 D1 cars at the place I go too by 30hp. one of the guys was at the shop the last time I was there and he couldn't believe the numbers I was putting down with my 2v and the -2. he had a 98 cobra with D1 and actually told me that my car makes more power and tq now than his did with the stock 4v and D1.

my tuner basically only installs and tunes prochargers and recommended I try this blower. he uses it on his real street car making over 530 without intercooler. my 2v is the first car out of his shop with it and set the bar for now.

did you guys see the article in last months muscle mustang fast ford mag. with the red cobra, 97 i think, it has a procharger, im prety sure it is the ds-series, like 700 hp. at 20 something pounds of boost. obviously im not going to be able to push those numbers though, so how much bost do you recomend on a stock cobra motor. im guessing 6-9 pounds??

I have gotten 17lbs on the dyno with my stock 04 2v so I don't see why you couldn't get at least 12lbs with a good tune. on the street I see 15lbs on average.

research the D1 more because if you are staying with the stock motor I think you will be disappointed with its performance overall. it will make a nice peak number at over 6500rpms but most people don't drive at those levels. you will lose usable HP in the midrange on the street for sure.

don't get caught up in peak HP numbers...........look good on the net but you don't feel them much on the street!!

Showstopper, is your block built or what, cause 15 lbs of boost on a stock block is just asking to blow something up. Id like to see your dyno sheets as well, it sounds amazing, keep up the good work man.

I agree that a standard P1SC will not be enough for future growth and thats why the -2 recommendation. if you want to see what a -2 is capable of just take a look at the NMRA real street guys using Prochargers. not only do they not use the intercoolers by rule, they dominate the class in which competitors have Novi 2K's and T-Trim Vortechs. Nuff said about the overall performance if they are beating the bigger blowers which have more airflow capability.

my tuner Mike Dez runs in this class with a -2 combo and so does class champ Tim Matherly. don't think because it's a P1 based head unit that it's a standard P1.

if you going to make 500+ right from the start you will want the D1 for it's air flow support and growth from there. a stock Cobra motor will not make that level though. more like in the 450-470 range on a good tune. this is where the -2 will excel giving the car great low end up to the shift point versus lag down low and big airflow at the top of each gear.

MadMatt, stock block, headers, cat pipe still on car. made 431rwhp 425tq as peak numbers with the car warm. never dyno'ed with the car cold. if I can figure out how to copy the dyno sheets from the files I have I will print and scan them. or if any of you have the dynojet runviewer program I can email a couple files to you to look at.

He did a lot more than just a 3" exhaust and a laptop to hit 12's in a SRT-4 neon. Straight out the factory they are hitting 14 flat, only seen two run at the track. Even with a new intercooler, exhaust and tune they might hit low 13's high 12's could be wrong though. Don't get me wrong I still like it being a four door and under 20,000. Just race him and find out for sure everybody can be quick thru talking sh**.

12.6 with a "Stage 2"? That's unpossible...
I think he's BS'ing you. Mid 13's is more realistic.

if he has a laptop hooked up to it then he has a piggy back from Psi-fi and that changes everything.

Heck with just an EBC you can hit 13.4 and under with everything else stock on the car.

When the chick from MA ran in the mid 12's on the 1/4 in her's way back when she was only making about 255whp and had about 1500 bucks in it. Personally good tunning and some aftermarket stuff is the best way to go for pwr with these cars, but many dealerships are now starting to ok warrenty work for the stg upgrades so many are just going with them.

With the Psi-Fi unit and STG2 with exhaust it is posible with DR or slicks to get down near low 12's at this point.

None of the stg upgrades allow any type of laptop access at all. The only way to do that is with e-manage or Psi-Fi power paq.

$1500 for only 260HP/280TQ? :nonono:

WEAK!

The peak numbers are not what the stg upgrades are all about either. It is the overall pwr under the curves that is good with them and you stay with the stock spool time (full boost at 2800 or so rpms) and offers you the ability to chose 1 of 3 boost settings as well as intercooler sprayer and also option for race gas map built in. You also get new waste gate that is adj. by the owner.

And usually the price is about 1200 for the stg2
