Suspension What would my friend need to beat me?

i know that gears and drags are worth 50 hp in the 1/4...so make sure that he just doesnt go throwing money into the engine b/c if you cant get off the line then you arent going to be able to throw down good times. and if he really is concerned with his 1/4 times and only that, tell him to avoid lowering springs-since they are stiffer they dont allow for the weight transfer, thus making more tire spin.

More power than your average bolt on is going to give him. Headwork/Cams, Forced induction, displacement, or nitrous. Don't see him cracking 110mph any other way.
if he can get a P&P and stage 2 cams, that will give him a lot! definately needs to look into to that b/c without that it will be tough.

Lid, Catback, pro 5.0, short stick, CAI, panhard rod, rear lower control arms, LS6 intake manifold, ASP underdrive pulley, ported tb, sub-frame connectors

That sucks that he won't be able to trap higher than me though :(

What would he trap at with say..

4.11 gears, CAI, long tubes, ORXP, pullies, suspension work, generic catback, throttle body, intake manifold

If thats with drag radials or slicks he should trap at about 104 or 105 if he can really shift. It also depends on the intake. It will be lower if he goes with the Bullitt intake than if he goes with the P51 intake which has been proven to definitely increase trap speed. Your buddy needs to lok into cams and heads if he plans on trapping over 110....or a simple 100 shot :nice:

Agree'd, that's why I listed it in his "need to do" list.....

...otherwise, it's not going to be difficult, it will be impossible.

Ok, I told him that it will be quite difficult for him to beat me at the trap speed, so he will just not worry about it and save up for a blower later down the road.

However, he has another question. It involves some basic "power adding" mods. I read the sticky about the good power adding mods, so this is what I came up with. Let me know if these are good or not :) [mod will be in bold]

1) I noticed that everyone said a CAI was pretty much an apearance mod, so he will just get a drop in K&N filter.

2) A catback and x-pipe will yield good gains. He likes the sound of the Magnaflow Magnapack catback and their catted X-pipe. His only question is will the X-pipe move the cats?

3) Steeda Underdrive pulley plus the timing adjuster.

4) Pro 5.0 Shifter

5) 4.11 Gears

So I guess the other questions as listed above are if the X-pipe moves the cats and where do you buy the timing adjuster

Thanks again guys!!!

-Todd

of course it'll move the cats, but it's a aftermkt bolt-on, they will fit. and the timing adjuster you can buy online at www.steeda.com unless you have a shop around you.

you mean 4.10 gears. 4.11's were in the 9in rears.

Hmm, that is surprising that it moves the cats since it is seems to be for the stock manifolds, but ok..he will just have to take them off for inspection. In case he doesn't feel like doing that (he has never picked up a wrench his life..I expect to be doing all of the work) are there any aftermarket mid pipes that do not move the cats? The Mac H-pipe for example?

haha, ok. Won't make that mistake again  <--that thing is awesome lol

-Todd

just get an offroad pipe since you'll have to change it anyway, stock Catted pipes have 4 cats. aftermarket ones only have 2.

Mustangs use a true dual exhaust F-Bodies don't, there for it needs at least two converters. On Mustangs the front two are pre-cats that do the super heating and the last 2/4 are the ones that convert the exhaust.

Still though what are the mods to the Z28? To run those time you need more than hopes and dreams.

its cool ur doing all this research on how ur bud can beat you. on mustangs the H-pipes are horrible. they rob so much power. with your simple bolt-ons, mild cams and gears he should be right with you. i cant see him trap so high though. how come the f-bodies trap so high? could the 6-spd make that mcuh of a diff or is it the intake work you have done?
