Winter Tire Selection

Well its getting about that time in Missouri that the snow and rain are abundant. I am looking at either getting a new set a all-seasons or a set of winter tires and a set of summer in the spring. If I get all seasons I can go with a better more expensive tire while if I go with two sets I need to go with a less expensive option. Which way do you think is better and what suggestions do you have for tires? It is a 2000 GT Vert with 17" wheels. It is a daily driver if I can't find a cheap truck to use over the winter months. Go with seperate tires. All season tires suck in both conditions. I have run bridgestone Blizzak tires in the winter and they are the best Nonstudded. If you can use studded tires get those. I am now running studded in the winter and performance in the summer. best of both worlds and keep in mind that you wont be buying tires as often either so you can spend just as much.

We got 6 inches of snow today just got my blizzak ws-50's on this past weekend and they kick serious a$$ no problems what so ever, I will be purchasing chrome 03 cobras for the summer so I dont care about the stock wheels. The only problem with these are that they act very funny on the highway the car kinda feels like the left hand side is fighting the right hand side. But overall these things kick a$$. I drive 22 miles one way to work and they just completely amazed me I couldnt get stuck anywhere I was purposely driving around looking for steep hills with snow and ice and I couldnt get stuck!!!

I fully believe in 4 snows for winter driving. I just scored 4) 16" (6 cyl. type) wheels on ebay for a great price and mounted up 225/55r16 Dunlop Graspics. Haven't put them on yet, always wait until there's the first snowstorm looming.

I also vote for the Blizzacks if your getting dedicated snow tires.

Tirerack is selling winter packages. A full set of black 16" steel wheels (wagon wheels baby!!! ) with Blizzak's I believe, mounted balanced and all, for only like $600.

I'll order a set if it seems to be a snowy one this year.

I have 15inch steel wheels on my ride for the winter,with Winterhandler Ice&snow 215/70/r15 on the back and cooper lifeliner touring 205/70/r15 on the front. I used 15x7s ranger or explorer rims forget wich, I sent my dad to the salvage yard to get them so no clue which one they came off. I had to use a 5/16th spacer in the front.
