Will any color be discontinued?

Brad's Site has it some place. If I remember correctly Torch Red is done.

Yes this was decided before the car went on sale. Nothing to do with sales. Will be replaced by Colorado Red which is the color the line calls it already. Very simular color but a change non the less.

Why?

Clearly, the decision HAS to be based on something. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just wondering why they would discontinue any color, unless it wasn't selling well.

I can't imagine any red color looking better than Torch Red, either, but that's, of course, just my opinion. Torch Red Mach 1 :nice:

Ford likes to keep the color pallette fresh. Nobody wants to be seen in a 10 year old color just like they don't want to be seen in a new car with a 10 year old design.

The only color that hangs around for more than 5 years in a row is Black. Everything else gets tweaked and renamed every few years.

I see that logic, but if you've got a good color (Torch Red, for instance), just change the name. I don't think anyone would mind driving a car with an 10 year-old color if they had Torch Red or Sonic Blue 10 years ago. Anyway, I see the logic, but it certainly has exceptions in my mind. Don't change colors just for the sake of changing colors.

Well, ford does that as well too.

94-95 Had Canary Yellow on the Mustang option list.

Ford dropped it but brought it back in 1998-99 naming it Chrome Yellow. Same color and same BZ paint code, but different name.

Red is a trendy color? Maybe Ford's logic is to try to improve the color a bit since they were't selling.

From 2002-2004, the most popular Mustang colors were Black, Silver, DSG/MG and whatever shade of dark red was available at the time. Torch Red is a nice color, but it ranks as one of the lesser chosen colors. If you look back to 1994, any bright red color doesn't sell as well as other colors as it ranks near the bottom of the list...Maybe this is why Ford has had 5 reds in 11 years.

But then again, every color except Black gets changed or renamed every few years.

If Ford waited to use sales, it would be too late to make any changes. Ford needs to get up and get ready for new colors way, way in advanced.

From what I read, Ford (and the other manufacturers too) closely watch color trends in areas other than cars. They make their plans based on those trends.

The last I saw on Brad's site was that a final decision on the 06 paint colors has not been made.

But as was said above,

Sonic Blue is most likely gone, replaced by a very dark blue.

Torch Red is most likely gone, replaced by Colorado Red.

Slime Green (oops I mean Legand Lime) is most likely gone. Replaced by another color that mimics a color from the 1960s. Somewhere when the '05 was introduced I remember reading that Ford was planning on doing a different retro-color every year so make those cars / colors more unique. Slime Green was the color for '05 and a different one would be on tap for 06.

There also was a rumor going around that Black was being replaced by Anthracite (SP?)

Ford and all other manufacturers change 2 - 4 colors every year to keep their color pallate fresh. Torch Red and Sonic Blue have been around since the 2005 Model year, so after 4 years, they're probably on the chopping block for '06.

Actually no. In 1994 and 1995, it was called canary yellow. When it returned for 1998 and 1999, it was called chrome yellow. But it is the same paint. I've had one of each :).

When I bought my '94 GT brand new off the lot, I was told it was Chrome yellow, not Canary yellow as I had initailly thought. Now if that name didn't come out until '98, then I guess those guys were prophets.

My car was the actual display vehicle at the Miami auto show when it was released. There are plenty other yellow 94-95 owners that will tell you the same thing.

Well, I think it's far more likely that your memory is wrong :). Go grab a brochure from 94 and 95, and look at the color list.

Also, just for kicks, if you are interested in the history of yellow since the beginning (of Mustangs, that is), YMR has a nice write-up:

My Mustang was in MM&FF's (2x's), Superfords, & 5.0 Mustangs. I'm quite sure I'd remember the color, Dave, and so does 5.0/Superfords.

Check out the pic of the yellow stang on the right side, and read the paint name.

Sorry for the off topic, pepe88.
