Just get a PI intake and head swap, shorties headers , o/r h-pipe , 1 chamber flows 3.73 gears and a chip , and you'll think your a god. All in all your looking at 2,500 $ you;'ll be seeing bout 270-275 hp easy

Haha no money for that.

I'm just thinking about swapping PI Heads and cams in addition to getting x-pipe + catback (I actually need this...).

That would probably be it for a while...any estimates? I know the 99-04 GT makes about 260hp with the PI heads and cams...so maybe 260ish with the exhaust too?

Also, thanks for the really quick responses guys :nice:

If you can do all the install work yourself then yes all those mods he just listed are gonna cost you around $2500 and u should be seeing about that, but the PI headswap is not an easy job, so if u cant do the PI headswap yourself add another $800-$1000 to that. If u cant do any of the install work yourself your gonna be looking at more around $4000-$4500 for all that stuff. I woudnt recomend the shortie headers either pay the extra $ and go for the longtubes. Forget the 3.73's and go for some 4.10's if your gonna stay N/A. 1 chamber flows are pretty damn nice and the O/R H-pipe is awesome. Get a good dyno tune u will be seeing right around 300 rwhp.

a) I dont have 2500 dollars
b) I can install the exhaust easily myself, not sure about the heads/cams but maybe I can get the help of my dad for them.
c) I'm not looking to make my car EXTREMELY fast, just better than stock so I'm not just another GT.

I saw that PI Heads/cams cost $395 BUT what worries me is that it says:
"Can be used on 1996-98 engines with additional modifications and parts"

Additional modifications and parts? Anyone know what these means?

By the way, thanks for the suggestions

Holy SH** were did you find them that cheap I paids about 2 g's for mine ...!!!!!!

Cheapest I have seen the entire PI headswap kit for was $1300. 4.10's suck on the freeway??? Yea in terms of gas mileage, in terms of performance and fun it doesnt get any better it makes 5th gear a power house gear. www.oemfordparts.com has the heads for $355 a piece, so for both it would be $710 and they have the intake for $166. They also sell a head changing kit on the site for $102.

got my setup @ parkway performance, for 1320$$ shipped with gaskets and bolts, pricy, mayby, but it was nice not to have to buy anything extra, And yes 5th gear will become a great friend on the freeway, puch and you can even get a little quirllie next to those rice rocketers

Hey, with the NOS, should you stay stock PI cams or upgrade to a more heavy duty cam... Sorry to bust the thread, 4.10's suck monkey nuts if you drive freeway alot !!!

No no they dont I still get 28mpg on the highway.

Man buying those kits is crazy. I rebuilt my motor and added the PI stuff with a new clutch and rear end for 1300 bucks.

Those are some nice prices on heads... I'll have to start buying them part by part. It shouldn't matter if I buy the left head separate than the right head, right? It's not like they come in matching pairs correct?

That's next years project. Get these heads have some work done on them and then put them in...

You should be good. The heads are not side specific they are identical.

If you think about it thats down right sad for a V-8 to put out 215hp.I have a 97 4.6 and if it didnt have turbo on it I would have never bought the car.Im comming from a F-body too though.I dont know what Ford was thinking.

But they are side specific... M-6049-P46 is right hand side M-6050-P46 is left hand side. But I wouldn't think that they have to come in pairs.

You can mix match do what ever as long as both are PI. On the non PI heads there are some flow differences between 91-95 and 96-98 but thats it. The only thing you have to watch out for is there is a small oil galley hole that feeds the chain tensioner. It needs to open on the front and plugged on the back.

I've heard the PI head swap causes some high compression issues...any of you guys that have this done experience anything bad? AMP here in Phoenix keeps telling me to just buy a 99+ PI motor because of this...are they just telling me that to make more money or what?
