DAMN AOD QUESTION

I just bought this car a week ago (5.0 LX) with a good ole' AOD. Now I accually wanted and AOD because I am going with a Turbo setup in the near future.
Now, I am almost positive that is has some kind of a shift kit in it. I get 2nd gear scratches occationally. It shifts hard into second(good), but here is the problem, it has a delay before shifting. A slow shift I guess. Shifts smooth through all other gears. It does not seem to like down shifting out of over drive when I stick my foot in it on the highway, kinda fussy.

Could these problems be a cheap or weekender shift kit? Or am I looking at a dying tranny?
Any info would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like the TV cable wasn't adjusted after the kit install......mostly because of your kickdown problem. Try different spots on the adjustment and see what works best for you. I used to adjust mine everytime I went to the track, if you go all the way It will hold till like 5600 and slam hard (nice chirp) but on street driving you would have no Kick down at all and would shift wierd if you weren't at open throttle so I would switch it back for the trip home. Hope this works for you.

Ok, just to clarify; under normal driving, it shifts nice and crisp. Under 3/4 to full throttle, it starts to shift .......delays...... then BAM shifts hard.

yes its a tv cable my car did this when i first bought it and it blew my tranny if you dont take care of it asap then it will go

what year car if its a rod type cable you have to bring it to a tranny shop and have em adjust it if its a cable (cables i belive are from 89-93) you can do it

Yeah it's still the way I'm leaning....if it didn't shift hard ever then I might say low fluid or the kit was messed up but wierd shifts? and sluggish kickdown....I would try that 1st, doesn't cost anything but a little time. When The TV cable is off it does some strange things.

Sorry I can't remeber in or out....I switched it back and forth so many times but for me it was a trial an error thing at first....Pop the clip make a minor adjustment 2 or 3 teeth should show you a difference one way or the other....I kept marking the shaft with a pencil as a reference......I think pulling the cable towards you (away from the firewall) and the clip towards the fire wall
will bring the kick down in sooner which sounds like what you need to do but I'm not positive on that.....sorry I'm really trying to remeber

this is for a cable type if its a rod a shop has to do it
i cant find my manaul but this is what i rember take you idle screw all the way in because when you adjust the tv cable the throttle has to closed all the way .
the tv cable on the braket is the one on ythe right if you standing in front of it.so go ahead and remove you metal clip with a flat head then with a small flat head remove the white clip.time to adjust it .push the tv all the wall back toward the fire way and get it as tight as you can put you clips back in .readjust your idle screw .drive it an see how it is

Ok, there is three cables going to the throttle body. I tried to adjust the far right one. There was only a 1/4" adjustment in or out.
Am I looking at the right thing?

its not a screw adjustment. it has a plastic piece that has to come out then slide cable then push plastic clip back in. i would take pic but mine isnt there anymore "manual vb"

I would have to disagree with above, sounds like needs a rebuild.. If you line pressure was high, it would shift harder and in a higher rpm for every gear.. And that would NOT cause a delayed shift and then a bang, that is a slipping clutch.. try changing you fluid a few times. change it once and then again in a hundred miles.. You can also get some friction modifier to add into your fluid as a last resort try, if the new fluid doesn't help........

FYI. The colored rubber grommet that the throttle cable "pops" into has been recalled by ford. Go to any ford dealer with your title. The will give you the part to fix the throttle cable connection and make it rock solid. Dont know if you are interested but just thought i'd help.
