FIPK, Magnapacks and PINGING!

I have a 03 GT with an FIPK2 and a magnapack catback.

I currently run 87 octane, and it pings with any load on the engine.

I plan to try a tank of 89 to see if that helps, but can anyone else think of other things to check?

Try cleaning your IAT sensor wire. Also, check all your vacuum lines for leaks[should also cause it to idle goofy, but worth a check anyway]
Faulty or plugged EGR valve will also cause pinging.

Although I would doubt just the CAI and exhaust would be causing the ping, [stock EEC has a wide range of adjustability] you could try putting the stock intake back on and resetting the EEC.

That's exactly what I thought too. I reset the EEC about two weeks ago, and I have driven over 500 miles since then....

I can't put the maf screen back on since it will not fit with the K&N CAI.

I hate to have to take off the CAI, but it sounds like I may have no other choice. I will try 89 for a tank or so and see if that helps.

Oh yeah, and the plugs were just replaced 5k ago with some autolite coppers.

It also wouldn't hurt to check if there are any leaks in the pipe after the Maf.
Bingo.......check to see if there is unmetered air entering the pipe after the MAF. This would cause pinging because your ECU is schedualing fuel for a certin amount of air, and if more is getting in unmetered, then it will lean you out, hence the detonation.
