Right now I have a 2.79? gear open rearend. And I was looking at getting a Posi unit or something close. The car is going to be used for mostly street but some strip use. I will be have around 300 to 325 rwhp. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Pat

get you a 3.40- 3.55 ratio do you have T5 or C4 stay stay with the 8" just drop in a Trac-loc it wont be cheap though

I had a guy on ebay build mine for 600$ w/ Trac-loc and 3.40 gears.

Love it I could get you his name if interested

Can someone explain to me What the difference is between the trac-loc,aurburn, and detroit locker?? And what are the best place to get them from?? Zwitr-that would be great if you still have his name.
thanks,
Pat

The Trac-Lock is the stock posi. It is clutch operated. The Auburn is a cone type. My Auburn sucks, it USUALLY only spins both tires if I'm going straight. Apparently the late model guys have the same problem with theirs. A Detroit Locker is a ratcheting differential, it completely locks the two wheels together when you're on the gas, and disengages when you let off.

Detroit lockers don't disengage when you let off the throttle in a straight line, I know this because when I downshift my car and it barks the tires, it leaves two strips of rubber on the road. My detroit locker only disengages when I make a turn, and it fights me horrendously even then, as I can feel the car shuddering as the differential unlocks and locks again. On hot pavement, the tires squeal around corners at slow speeds.

How about fitting an 8.8 rearend from an 86 Mustang ,they are cheap and you just rebuild the clutches(sometimes they are OK) and weld MII spring perches...It`s an easy bolt on and there`s a lot of gear to choose from...It also fixes the back spacing problem 0f the 8 inch unit....you can put Fox mag on no problemo and the II whells get close to the fender lip and fills the wheel well! Anything goes...the other alternatives are also good too not to mention that changing gears is much faster on an 8 inch rear...
