Help me pick an intake......

I presently have a full weight 92 LX. 302, TrickFlow Twisted Wedge heads, X303 cam, 30 lb injectors, 80mm pro M, 70mm throttle Body. The car has a lentech auto w/3200 stall and 4.30 gears. I currently have a GT-40 intake and I feel like its a bottle neck. Anyone have any suggestions on a more suitable intake?

about that track heat, I was looking in my summit in the Engines and Components section and I noticed the TFS top end kit. It had the TFS heads, cam and intake. Both were the same except for the intake manifold.
STREET HEAT: 350 HP @ about 5,300 rpm, 370 tq @ about 4500rpm
TRACK HEAT: 360 HP @ about 5,800 RPM, 350 tq A about 4500 rpm

Wouldn't 20 lb make up for a loss of 10hp at a higher rpm? and wouldn't that make the Street heat better. The graph is on pg 141 of the Sep-Oct 2004 issue. I mean I could be not seeing an added benifit to the Track heat, it just cought my attention.

I usually toss the summit catalog from the mailbox to the trash, so I don't have the graphs to look at. Peak numbers aren't a very efficient way to compare the intakes. You need to look at the area under the curves and compare where the curves are at different RPM's. A car running 4.30's isn't going to want the curve to be the same as a car running 3.55s/3.73s.
 
Very good point. That is why I wanted someone to look at the graphs, because it SEEMS that the HP curves are pretty similar, with the TRACK heat peak pushed slighly further back then the Street. The torque curve is higher sooner on the STREET heat as well. It would seem that possibly the track heat would be slightly, and I mean slighly, better if you hung on to a higher RPM each gear. But if the Street heat was in fact better at slightly lower RPM wouldn't it be better to not max out your engine so much, prolonging the life, and possibly alowing you to run higher gears for better fuel economy. :shrug:

It's not as straightforward as some would think - picking an intake with a larger cross section. Here is a real world example. I ported an Explorer lower for a customer with AFR 165 heads, E cam, 70mm TB, 75mm Pro-M MAF, etc (see dyno). He thought the Explorer intake was a bottle neck too. Bought an RPMII and lost torque and power up to 5,300 rpm and they then ran side by side through 6,000 rpm. He pulled the RPMII, sold it and put the Explorer back on.

I would look at the TFS Track heat, Performer RPM of RPM 2 and the Systemax. The systemax because you have the really nice gear that will take up the slack from down low that the holley gives up...but the Holley is proven over and over to make up for it and make more power than all of those intakes.

But remember, it only makes more power with the right cam setup.

Let's see some real world comparisons of intake swaps on the same car along with combo information. What Sylent needs is real world experience vs opinion. Bump.......

I'd rethink the cam with that aod combo. Might want to get in touch with jay allen www.camshaftinnovations.com for a cam. I'd use a track heat with a 75mm tb if your still on the stock tiny tb. The right cam/intake package will be the difference between 12.80's and 11.90's.

Yep...or contact Ed Curtis @ www.flowtechinduction.com for a cam...

I would keep your 70mm TB instead of swapping...that money can be spent elsewhere...
