that should be great. I saw that the z06 is gonna be a 6.2L, It was rumored to be 7.0L a while ago

The new z06 is going to have a 427 (7.0 liter). Why the hell doesn't ford sleeve out a 5.4 and stroke it so it is a 427 as well?
The supercharger is a nice touch but the more cubic inches the better!
The more cubic inches an engine has the more low end torque it makes I don't think it is smart that ford is lazy and just slaps a supercharger on every thing in stead of doing it the right way MORE CUBIC INCHES PLEASE! But the new cobra will be sweet I must agree :nice:

Check it out Motor Trend Jan 05 issue pages 18 and 19. 6.3 liter 500hp vette and 5.4 supercharged cobra. Also some other sweet hotrods, CTS-v super with either 515 superchared ls2 or 600hp 7.0 covette blue devil v8. STS-v supercharged northstar V8. Dodge Charger will have hemi 340hp and a SRT 8 with 425 hp. I hope they are correct cuz i'm getting really excited about the future of rearwheel american muscle baby ya baby :flag:

That’s stupid. They’re not lazy. A lot more engineering went into the 03 & 04 Cobras than it would take to punch out a 4.6 or a 5.4.
Block is ROCK solid. Cams have a Blower profile, Heads are AMAZING, Bottom end is bullet proof, etc, etc, etc. this was a FI specific engine design. The only thing that’s similar to it on my motor is the CID and the cam layout.
Their are big advantages for Ford to keep a Square bore engine like the 4.6. Also giving the 4.6 a SC is better than going bigger with a NA motor. Motors running low boost like the current Cobra is a much more street-able setup than a high compression NA motor. high HP NA setups are great for the track but your start having to get into radical cam profiles etc. GM has the perfect setup with their LS blocks. Compact and light but you can see that their having to go up to over 6 liters to even get close to the 4.6 SC cobra engine and their not even their yet with the current Sc cobra motor on average making over 425 hp at the crank. I would even hate to see them go to the 5.4. It would totally screw the nice weight balance this new car has with 53/47. The engine wouldn't give you the same revs range that the current Cobra has and it would be less fuel efficient(not a big deal but one that has to be considered). this would turn the Cobra into a drag only type of car and SVT is totally against that. If they were looking at that you would see a solid rear axle. The car is made for all around performance and a production 5.4 blown motor would actually hurt the car badly in the corners. Punch a 5.4 out and it would have a redline of something like 5.5K or 6K max. That’s not what Cobra owners have come to expect out of SVT cars.

I'm willing to bet we won't see a 500 hp Z06. GM ends up screwing their folks every time they come out with a new Z06 model. when it was first released they said it would be hitting 425 hp. not the case. Then when the bumped up the hp again they were talking about 450. Not the case. Look at the stupid SS truck. Told folks that it would have over 350hp when first being released to the public. not the case it got 300hp and it weighs I believe somewhere close to 4500-5000lbs. the car/truck is super piggy. The only underrating GM did was with the Fbody twins but that’s it. And there was a lot more talk about the GTO being over 400hp a few months back...Not the case.

I expect to see another 4.6 with a twin screw SC that’s on the GT and the variable valve timing that’s on the 3v Mustang GT and with the variable intake runners that you see on the FR500 intake. With that’s SC and with the others mentioned above you would make over 500hp with the same or even less boost than what on the current Cobra. Why would ford incur the costs of developing a SC'd 5.4 and trying to shoehorn it into the new chassis. They would have the exact same problems they has with the SN95 chassis. The engine bay dimensions are very similar and the 5.4 couldn't be put into the chassis without extensive modifications to the shock towers and the valve covers on the Cobra R couldn't be taken off with the motor in the bay.

Speaking of Cobra R THATS what you can expect a 5.4L SC'd motor in. If Ford went to a 5.4SC motor it would be hard for them to justify the existence and price of their next Cobra R (which will be release in the next few years...I guarantee it.)

BTW...the Blue Devil project is DEAD. Lutz came out publicly last spring and said GM will not compete with Ford and Dodge with a new super car and will not develop an existing line to compete with them. Said it wasn't in GM's interest to spend the capitol. And if the GTO flopps in sales again in 05 like id did BIG TIME in 04 I willing to bet Chrysler won't be touching the segment with a 10' pole. Their in enough trouble right now as it is.

As long as it doesn't try to give it a good run for price...

500-hp blown 5.4 Cobra for CHEAP? Yeah right.
They would probably have the new Lightning on
the slate for release already if it was cheap and
easy to throw out warrantied 500-hp S/C 5.4s.
