Now its more of a $$ question. Pricing pretty much stock rebuilds, I am looking at $1035 for a 302 and $1150 for a 351C. But if I went with the 302, I would drop a lot of $$ on different parts that work with the 351 (I think). I am leaning with sticking with the 351.

I'm not sure which 351 you mean. If the 351W costs ~$100 more than the 302 DO IT. I don't see how you can buy a 351C long block for ~$100 more than a 302 (remember your block is toast and you need another), but if thats the offer on the table DO IT.

I'd take the 351W over the 302 as long as the price delta was less than 15-20%. Go ahead with your plans for a stock rebuild, the 351W in stock trim is in the output ballpark of the 289-hipo. You can go for the performance approach later, the 351W block/crank/rods are nearly bulletproof with a stock cam/heads/induction setup, so you can re-use much of it when you are ready yet still enjoy the healthier output in the meantime.

Just my opinion of course, but this time it was asked for :D
