guys im going to pull the ac on my 02 gt. however i was wondering if i can just pull it out, or do i need some sort of kit? i searched for a kit, but i only found them for older mustangs.

i am going to pull the ac compressor and lines, im leaving the heater core. might pull the winsheild wiper fluid compartment as well. any of you guys do either of these, give me some info. thanks

WHy take it out? It's only about 30 pounds which isn't even 1 tenth in the 1/4 mile.
If you are going to lighting your car up, rear seat delete etc you have to take weight off the front or the car will not hook. There is another way with out using the delete kit but you have to know what you are doing and be very carefull. either take the tentioner to a machine shop or if you have a die grinder or a dremal machine off the built in washer for the stock pulley so you can use the grooved pully next to it. then run a short belt under and over the tentioner to the alt pully and bypase the a/c pully all together. I have not got around to doing mine yet since I have other projects in my way. Bill putnam and I were talking about doing it this way. I beleave he has already done his.

What kind of a power gain are we looking at here ? 5 - 8 hp ??

Maybe 1HP.

When the A/C if off, the pulley on the compressor freewheels....so you only lose the amount of HP it would take to spin an idler pulley.

You do it pretty much for weight....which is why i asked "why?".

Looking at his sig, i wouldn't guess his car is a race-only car. I mean he's added weight with the steeda race splitter and rear spoiler as well as the side skirts. You can make up 30 pounds of weight other ways. I would rather have the A/C for the summer and for defrosting windows on humid rainy days.

Are you sure it just "freewheels" as you say ? My last car gained about 8hp at the wheels when removing the AC. Granted it wasent a stang but if it does free wheel, why go through the trouble of taking out the AC for a weight reduction ?

You could easily save about 20lbs with a light weight battery

Not to mention if you decide to sell the car later...

Next time you have your belt off your Mustang, try to spin the pulley by hand.

thanks for the info guys, i think i will go with that part that is the delete kit, the other way seems to be way too much work for me. :nice:

yea mine is mostly a show car, but i also am working on lighten things up a bit. i know i gained on the body kit, and i want to counter act that, which i probly did already. i have a lighter then stock hood, rear seat delete, pulled spare/ jack. so assume its pretty even now, but i will pull ac compressor and lines =38 pounds, getting light weight k member saves about 25-30 pounds, cobra missano race seats= 20 pounds per seat total of 40 pounds, getting aluminum drive shaft thats at least 15 pounds less then stock.

all said and done im looking at about 115 pounds lighter and thats being on the lower side, it will prob. be more weight lost.

also if i leave in the blower/ heater core i should still be able to defrost the windows if need be, if not ill remove that too. :nice: car is not my daily driver only nice days

well, i got the parts i wanted, thank you for giving me the part i needed. i could not order from ford racing though, but i did get it elsewhere. just one piece, about 3 pounds and 3 bolts. i also got my light weight battery but have to order the bracket to install the battery. but i think this will somewhat.

it just gives a good feeling. when i took out the rear seat and the spare, the car felt more lively, so thats what im looking for. now i roll with 1/4 tank gas sometimes cause i like how much faster it makes the car feel. when my friends get in or i fill up i can feel a difference the car feels more sluggish

wont put in till spring, but i will let you guys know how it feels. i will also measure total weight loss of both peices.
