466 Fox Update

466 Fox Update and 5.0 problems

Hi guys, wow its been awhile. I was working in Columbus Ohio's all ford super swap meet two weeks ago and damn, it was crazy awesome there, its the biggest all ford show in the world, no kidding. My 466 is all torn down and I picked out all my parts and am currently saving up to get them. At the swap show I bought a Barry Grant Speed Demon 850CFM w/ mechanic secondaries for $400 brand new, some 7.5 fender emblems and had my eye on a built C6 but decided to wait (didn't need to max out credit card lol). Anyway the rest of the parts list:

-Hooker Super Comp LT Headers
-C6 w/2500 stall
-Spintech Pro Street Mufflers
-Ford Racing A443 cam (234/244 dur. @.050 .562/.588 lift) and lifters
-Harland Sharp 1.73 ratio roller rockers
-Ford Racing 4.5" valve covers
-Custom 3" exhaust tubing made into side exits
-Roll Cage
-Mini Starter
-Felpro gaskets
-Ford racing fox body 460 engine mounts
-Ford racing fox body 460 oil pan conversion, pick up, tube, dipstick
-Subframe connectors

I can't think of anymore but tell me what you guys think so far.

Also, on my 5.0 I had a problem with it sort of sputtering sound cruising down the road and it backfires/sputters like crazy above 4000rpms. I changed the sparkplugs and the problem went away for a few weeks and now its back again WTF man. I know my B303 is letting more exhaust through but would that be fouling my plugs that quick? O the old plugs that i took off look like they were 4-5 years old. not good. now it has brand new autolites with a .045 ga, i know its not correct gap, i think its supposted to be .054 if not mistaken, could that be the problem? thanks

i read your thread last night or whenever you put it up, but i missed the part about the probs with the 5.0L. :bang:

have you considered the TFI and PIP? need more info to go further with those. your coil is not on the outs?

has it tossed any codes?

so it still does it with new plugs. hmmm. the gap you have should be fine. closer gap is a nice idea for if one suspects a weaker ignition.
in fact the whole line on that is coming back - some racers are finding better performance with closer plug gaps than fatter gaps, even if the ignition can support more. not that any of this is related to your ride. it is late. :)

that is all i can think of.

good luck.

When are you planing on puting the motor in?I had a hell of a time changing head gaskets with my 351W, because of the power brake booster.I got mad and took my big ol' electric grinder to it and the heads still wouldn't come off   .So now I got manual brakes, it was wroth it when changing plugs. You might have to remover the power booster and get a smaller GM styl one or go manual brakes.I know the 429/460 motors are wider than the Widsor small blocks thats why I said this.Looks like you got most of the stuff you need, don't forget fuel lines and electrical wiring, that stuff gets expensive (I know,I got $800 into a fuel lines alone). What kinda of manifold are you gonna be runing, because hood clearance will be a issue.I think you might need a special driveshaft for the C6, but im not sure.

I have a 2.5" fiberglass hood already, so clearance isn't an issue. The motor is going in this spring. The intake is performer 460, i know i know, if it doesn't work out i wil get the rpm. the performer was free..

5.0 prob: this exact same problem happened two weeks ago when i had some old plugs in it. I changed them to some autolites and gapped them to .045", whats the proper gap? anyways the problem came back last week. The car is a B303 cammed car. could that smaller gap cause the plugs to foul really fast and act like crap? i know its gotts be the damn plugs. think i should re-gap them ?
