PI intake & Cams

Getting the PI intake and cams on next weekend and hopefully getting it dynoed also. Just wondering after this is done do I need to run a higher octane or can I still run 87. When I got my car tuned and the chip put in he said he tuned it for 87 octane.

No you can run 87, compression is the same. I should be putting my pi cams on next weekend aswell and hopefully the intake the week after. Let us know how it goes, if you bought the bolt on(2001 + cams) make sure you get these bolts:
cam bolts yf7z-6279-aa $2.26 ea need 2

Thanks, I will let you know how it feels I should be getting it done next weekend. I've heard that I should get around 35-40 rwhp from the PI cams and intake, hopefully I will be able to get it dynoed next weekend also so I can really see what it does.

The guys that are doing the swap this coming week you will definitely love the gain. Each car is different so it is hard to say what you will gain but I will tell you that it should be in the neighborhood of 25-30. I have a few more things coming up that I am going to try and get too the 255-260 mark without touching the heads or shortblock with my non-PI heads. When I get a chance to start my new motor buildup I am hoping to go 330 rwhp plus on the plans and I think it is very possible with non-PI heads.

Make sure that you guys check out the link in my sig for the '96-'98 guys.

Yes, 87 octane is fine - just wondering if you got a chip..... tuners typically advance the timing for more hp and torque, which is a major reason for getting a chip? Why not advance the timing for the gains available there - cost of premium fuel?

Sorry, to get the gains you have in your head, I am estimating that I got approx. 17rhp from the PI cams an intake combo with the bulk coming from the PI cams. For proof, I had dyno'd post PI cams, pulleys and Catted X at 222rwhp and only 229 with an FRPP catback and PI intake being the components added. I also lost a couple of rwtq with the PI intake, but gained with the PI cams. The PI intake I got also has the aluminum crossover to prevent any cracking in the future.

Defiinately worth doing and please do post your results.

I think you will like the results. I hope you will post the Dyno numbers, I'm curious to see the outcome.

Your already getting nice 1/4 mile times for the stock heads. :nice:

Yea I got a chip, he said he just tuned it for 87 octane, not sure if he advanced the timing or not. I think once I get the PI cams and Intake I might just start running premium so I can do the advanced timing. Hmm IDK I'm hoping to get 30 rwhp from both but I dont know for sure what I will get. The car is putting down decent numbers right now for the mods.

When I do the dyno I will definetely post the results so everybody can get a rough estimate of what kind of power this really adds.

Thanks yea I pulled a 2.1 60' on that run on some pretty bald street tires so after the PI intake and cams I will be looking to get some nice DR's and hopefully see 13's.
