Viper Spec T56 and parts finally arrived (DUW)

ditto, how much was the total?

After it was all said and done, the total was just under $4500. The tranny and swap stuff was about $3200, the clutch was a little over $1000, and the rest was shipping and misc. parts.

My first reaction was... damn, I'd never let any chick drive that car. Then I remembered that the blonde posing on your hood in your avatar was in fact your wife, so I guess it's alright.

Actually, she has brown hair. The blonde is just a trick of the light. :) But once the motor goes in, I doubt she'll be driving it much. She doesn't like cars to be that... twitchy.

How are you gonna stop this thing? Do you plan on any brake upgrades? I know its not as fun to worry about brakes, but I was just wondering. I've been considering cobra brake upgrades recently to deal with my bolt-on stopping needs, I can't even imagine an 1800 horsepower monster...

Brakes aren't fun?!? I actually prefer talking brakes and chassis setup than motor. I think they're the more intimate beast. If your motor setup is a little off, you're down on power but can still make it to the checkered flag. If the chassis/brake setup is wrong, the car gets totaled and hopefully, if you're lucky, you live.

But anyways, I'm currently looking at 13" Stoptechs, 14" Alcons (ala stage 3 Roush), or a 14" Porsche setup (Big Reds). For the top speed runs, I'll have a dual parachute system as well.

How does 2 pit bulls, a preban Glock, and a semi auto 12 gauge sound? The rest of my firearms are back in AZ at my parents place... Maybe I’ll bring back a few more next time I visit...
 :rlaugh:

I never thought about the clutch part, Dan. You are probably right, too. I was too busy using my thick-headed drag race mentality. What kind of power is the clutch rated at?

That's going to be one hell of a car when its finished! I was already jealous of your car's suspension, and now you have the tranny and clutch setup I want.
Since this is about your car's future, I don't think you've ever said what your plans are for the rest of the rear suspension, or what your wheel prospects are (which I assume would be lightweight 18''s cause you know you want the 14'' rotors :p ).

When is this beast gonna be doing this?

Good question. It all depends on money and time. My next major purchase will be the rear suspension (see below) but after that I really need to get a paint job as the Atlantic Ocean is starting to show its tell-tale sign in a couple spots. Plus the last paint job (previous owner) was absolute crap. The base coat didn’t adhere to the primer and so I’ve got some peeling going on. Once that’s done, I’ll start ordering motor parts.

Of course, I’ve got so many mixed feelings on a paint scheme, it may be years before I decide. Do I want a traditional racing scheme? Exotic pasta rocket scheme? Who knows?

As it sits (in street trim), the clutch is rated at over 800 lb/ft (I can’t get a solid figure from anyone to save my life). But I know of some guys pushing 1200+ hp through them with success. Again, I have the luxury of being able to pad the numbers a little. Drivetrain components are usually rated with a generous buffer so that they can take spike loads (i.e. maximum tq engaged instantaneously). Since I won’t be subjecting the car to those loads, I feel confident pushing the limits slightly.

And if the clutch does die on me, I’ll swap in a racing disk and pressure plate and try to kill the tranny instead! :)

The rest of the rear suspension is going to be ordered very shortly (before Xmas). I’ve decided to test an unknown quantity in this area and give Evolution Motorsports some business. I was going to build a custom panhard bar and 3-link. Instead, EVM’s Watts/Tri-Link assembly is going to get the nod. This is going to be coupled with an adjustable sway bar of my own design and the existing rear suspension.

Later, when I get closer to getting some decent power down, 33 spline axles and an undecided differential will be used. This will be used with a 8.8” housing prepped by myself.

Wheels, wheels, wheels... I’ve been beating my head against the wall concerning this. Really, I’m looking at two, possibly three sets. I really like the look of the BBS RK plasma wheels for the street (in 18” x 8.5” and 10“). For the top speed runs, I’m still up in the air. I’m looking at some CCW’s in 18” x 12” for the opentracking and if they can handle over 3300 rpm, I’ll consider them for the top speed runs as well.

Of course, the specialized tires for the speed runs will likely dictate the wheel choice.

Sounds like a nice setup. I've never seen a watts link on a mustang. Is the one you're looking at similar to the one on crown vic's?
Nice choice on the RK's, I was seriously considering them for about as long as it took me to look up some prices. I was going to run them on the street and eventually (once I upgraded brakes and susp.) in ASRA events. For now, Heavy cobras will have to do.

This is EVM's watts link:

Update:
When you can't get good info from the distributors, go straight to the manufacturer. McLeod just gave me a figure of 1400 hp for this clutch. Maybe the transmission is the weak link...

Was that with the diaphragm pressure plate? When I ordered mine Red said 1100hp on the diaphragm and above that you had to upgrade to I believe a Long style pressure plate like is pictured beside the street twin HERE. Just wondering if he upped the hp rating on the diaphram style or is he talking about something else?

Diaphragm is rated at 1400, 3-finger (what they called it, may be the long style) is rated at 1200.
