Tonight when I pulled the pan off my AOD to swap filters, I found a small, tan plastic mushroom-shaped piece just laying in the pan. It's about an inch and a half long, half inch in diameter with an o-ring around the top part. Anyone recognize it, and more importantly, anyone know where it really belongs? I cant see anywhere it would seem to fit.

Someone should sue them for intentional infliction of emotional distress. Scared the b'jeebees out of me when I saw it there. :D

I think it's safe to assume your fluid/filter has never been changed -- that might be scary.

Other than that, I wouldn't worry -- as stated above.

Ratrapp is right.
It was used to plug the dipstick tube hole to keep dirt out, once the tranny was instaled into the car. When the dipstick tube was installed and the dipstick push into the tube, the little plastic piece got pushed down into the pan when they filled it with fluid, and then added the dipstick.
No worries.
