Does the 05 GT beat the 02 Z28's and T/A's?

No is doesn't beat them stock, but who cares, buy one and mod the hell out of it.

Dead on to about 60mph,,,after that bye bye mustang...

But heck, like he said, just mod it and mod it alot if you want to run with one over 100mph...

I dont know about one thats had a few thosand on her and a good tune.... I would have to say it would be a situation where the LS1 is not the king. Look at the Mach and the 05 GT and the Mach is just as fast if not faster than the LS1. So just remember good tune+miles= RIGHT ON!

My friend had a 97 z28 automatic who ran 14.1 stock. So who knows I guess it depends on a lot of things....I do know that after 95mph all I ever saw was his ugly square dual exhaust tips in front of me as he kept pulling from me when we would "play" on the highway ;)

The 02 WS6s and SSs are no slouch. I've seen a few turn 13.1s bone stock. They are lighter then the GTO and come with 275 rubber stock and a live axle rear so they can get out of the hole pretty well! They won't ride as nice as a 05GT and the fit and finish will not be as good either. Whatever you get just drop some $$$ into it to make it faster then then next guys car!

I have a 98 Z28 ls1 and i ran 13.30 @ 106.67mph in the 1/4mile and 8.56 @ 84.68mph bone stock down to the paper filter in 80 degree weather. I dynoed 307 hp at the wheels bone stock and it is rated at 305 hp from the factory. The 01 and 02 LS1's have been known to run high 12's stock with good driver and dynoe around 310-320hp at the wheels stock. Hope this help the debate.

Or you could wait for the 08 special edition, that should have upwards of 370HP with a NA 5.4. The LS1 vs. 05 GT is the same story as the Mach, Very similar ET's with the LS1 trapping about 3 mph faster. If you meet up with an LS1 at a stop light you defenetly have an advantage, however, If you meet up with one on the Highway prepare to get spanked. The track, now thats a close match.

From what we've seen so far, sounds like just an exhaust & intake (is a PCM reflash needed with the new Stang's ECU?) are all it takes to easily level the playing field with a stock LS1 car. Then again if the LS1 owner adds exhaust and intake... swings and roundbouts I guess. It's all good fun though.

I'm hoping to race my stock M6 '95 WS6 LT1 t/a (rated @ 320 HP) against a stock '05 Stang @ the strip next year. I think it'll be a good race since it seems Ford underated the new engine by about 20 HP and it really pushes about 320? Heck drivers being equal, a stock M5 GT might well win since it seems to have a nice torque curve all the way to redline, which is higher on the GT (from looking at the graph someone posted earlier). What is the redline? 6500?

See sig. Those times are with a K&N drop in and a Flowmaster muffler welded on the stock exhaust. Some say on LS1.com that the K&N is only good for 2 HP and the Flowmaster gains no power over stock(?). These times are with an automatic, 2.73 gear, stock tires and pressure and 75,000 miles on the clock. Keep in mind LS-1's dyno at least 275+ HP to the wheels.

I believe the new Stang is little slower, but like others are saying bolt ons will level the field soon. No need to worry unless you are trying for elevens.

IMO, the advantage definitely goes to the LS1 but the '05 GT ain't gonna be that far behind. It's easily close enough that a well driven '05 GT wouldn't (shoudn't) have any trouble beating a poorly driven LS1.

If you want a GT, I'd say get a GT...it may be a little behind a LS1 F-body but it's nothing that a few minor mods couldn't fix. If you want a to wait a little while and spend a little more, wait for the Cobra...but you should set your goals a little higher if that's the route you're going to take. Stock or anywhere near stock LS1's would pretty much be just a waste of gas...you should be looking at beating pretty heavily modded LS1s, Z06s, '03-'04 Cobras, Vipers...

There was no 1995 WS6...and the '96-'97 WS6 and SS's were rated at 305hp. 320hp was the rating for the '98-'00 WS6 and SS.

I wouldn't say "similar ets" either though. So far, the best times for the GT are below average for LS1's (mid 13's). Stick that driver who got the mid 13 in the GT and that driver will be the same one to get a high 12 with the LS1. The GT has the advantage 0-30, 0-60 is equal for a stop light, 1/4 mile is all LS1.

And I would hope that a 2008 SE Mustang can take out out a ten year old Camaro. If it didn't, Ford wouldn't hear the end of it.

Low 13's...stock for stock.

You can get a lid and full exhaust for a nice power gain but then your into modding. LS1's are low 13 second car. The new GT is to be decided but looks to be about .2 tenths slower pro-driven.
