Shelby Gauge Pod

I was considering purchasing the Shelby Gauge Pod along with the bracket that let's you mount your own gauges in the standard GT style bezel. Does anyone have a picture of the Shelby pod in their car? I'm just wondering how cleanly it fits, and if it can be made to look like something that belongs in the car, rather than something that was very obviously just stuck on the dash. I did a search, but didn't come across any actual photos.

If it looks good (after being painted, etc obviously) then that's probably my first choice. Otherwise I'll be saving up for the JME bezel or something...

The gauge pod is available from Maier Racing. I think they fit the '65 without any modifications. They have to be slightly trimmed for a '66.

The part I was talking about is here. That, plus the gauge support that 66P51GT pictured above are the two things I was hoping to combine, giving me the option to use all of my own gauges, plus add a tach and one other of my choice. The picture of the unfinished fiberglass part isn't very flattering, though, and I just wanted to see how it looked installed.

I'm also in the process of doing the gauge support you referenced with white-faced Autometer Phantoms and a 65 GT 5-dial bezel. I already have the backing plate and the bezel - just waiting on Santa to bring the gauges. I've mocked it up with some old gauges, and the bezel and gauge support seem to fit very well. I think it's going to work out nicely, and a WHOLE lot cheaper than the JME stuff.

Bob--How deep does the pod go? All the way to the metal defroster/speaker cover? Is the pod paintable/dyable for those of us without black dashes?

I've been wanting to add a few extra gauges but haven't had much luck looking around other than pillar pods and such.

Anyway, I agree with the compliments. Looks damn stock to me!

Paul - the pod stops about 1" shy of reaching the metal defroster/speaker cover. I have HEARD of people painting/dying them, but have never seen the finished product myself.

I also have one of the A-pillar dual gauge pods, but haven't decided if I'm going to use it. Just not sure if I like that look or not.

I'm with you on the A-Pillar pods. I haven't seen them installed. I guess I'm just a chicken!

5 or 6 wires. Not hard to install, as long as you aren't afraid to drill into the dashpad - some people can't stomach that thought!

Bob, I have to admit that drilling into anything on the old pony gives me the shakes. But, it does look nice.

Still, I'm a weenie. I freely admit it.

why doesn't anyone make a dash pod like that for 67-68? the wires could run thru the pad via the speaker holes. I am replacing the guages in the cluster and have a two-guage bracket under the dash, but I don't like looking down to check them, I prefer guages to be closer to my line of sight.

OT, is that a dead-pedal I'm seeing? did you make it yourself? after driving my acura, I can't go around a corner without mashing on that footrest and was thinking of adding one to the 'stang, but wasn't sure what to do with the high-beam switch.
