SLP + Catted X (yes, I did search...)

Yes, I did search and read a few threads on this. First of all, I want to know really how loud it is. Its hard to tell from videos.

Say I start it up in the morning at like 6AM...is it so loud that it would easily wake the neighbors? Right now I just have super 40s and thats not an issue at all, they're pretty quiet to me.

Also, anyone running the SLP catted X? Does it pass emissions? If not I'll probably go with bassani.

I want this to be loud, but I dont want it to be SO loud that its unbearable.

I read a few other posts about Magnapacks VS. Loudmouth. I do like the fact that SLP will continue making these whereas Magnaflow will stop Magnapacks soon.

Thank you very much for any input.

I took my stang to get it inspected shortly after putting the catted X on and the guy told me that clamped on cats don't pass inspection...but he said he would pass me anyways because he liked my car. I think it was just BS because my friend's TA never failed because of his cats with his SLP Y pipe.

you should pass fine with stock manifolds and the SLP catted X, at least you will pass the visual. Sniffer test depends on a few other factors too so I can't say for sure. Like bdcardinal said, you'll fail no with anything other than stock in Kalifornia :nonono:

Thanks for the input guys, I dont think I'll be goin with the Catted X because it doesnt pass the sniffers.

Most likely going with the SLP Catback system though.

yes it is possible to get ticketed for sound. in CA you get pulled over then have to go to a referee station (state employee that will not cut corners) and they do a sound test with a Db meter. if you are louder than 96.5 decibels than you have to fix it. the fine if you dont fix it is upwards of $400. they usually also give an emissions violation where you have to get the referee to do a complete smog inspection where if anything that isnt stock doesnt have an EO number, then it has to come off.

Alright thanks...but I really want to know if anyone has had experience or knows how easy it would be to get sited for sound with an SLP loudmouth. I really dont want to have to deal with changing out my mufflers.

Emissions? I passed in PA, but it is only visual here. Ca laws are insane. What a dicked up state. Give Anorld a few more years to fix things (I lived in CA for four years).

Loud? Well, I have the catback and the catted X. It is not nearly as loud as wiht an o/r X pipe. I was worried about the cops too, but have not had a problem. The loudmouth by itself, is easy to drive quietly. The catted X, is a little harder, but you still can.

My exhaust is loud, but not as loud as most Harleys that I hear if that is any indication and I don't ever see them driving around.

Just don't drive like an ass clown and you should be fine.

Well thats good to know - I'm most likely going with catted X + the loudmouth. I don't normally drive like an ass anyways, I just want it to have a nice sound.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm jealous of that setup. And yes I live in CA and the emissions laws are strict because of too many people (who can't drive worth a damn by the way, worst drivers in the planet hands down and I've driven in some 3rd world countries with no laws) and too many cars and I could go on forever with this rant but my blood pressure wouldn't like it.

Anyways if you get a ticket for loudness of exahust, it'll be a fix it ticket. If you get it from the local police, go to the County sheriff or the State Police an ask them to listen to it. See state police have real crime to look after as opposed to small town police and could really care less how loud your exhaust is. So unless you sound like you're running straight pipes, most country/State police will sign off the ticket...then you keep the original for yourself and send the copy along with your administrative fee to the courthouse and you're done.

A little advice, if you're not sure there are cops around you, just stay below 2500 rpms and you should be fine. Good luck and once (just for the kick of it), go ahead, rip it down the street and wake up your neighbors :D

hey rant buddy, u gotta go to a referee station to get the sound ticket signed off. there is a little box on the ticket that says "no officer sign off", they also will cross out the sign off portion. the sound test is free at the referee station. i believe we do the sound test at 4250 for the 4.6 motors. so as long as youre under 96.5 Db at that RPM you are fine.
