Why white/blue smoke?

Yesterday I asked my brother to take out my car so I could hear it. Well, he did and stepped on it pretty well and as I see him pass by my house, I also see a cloud of white/bluish smoke coming out. My rear main seal is out and my h-pipe is covered in oil on the pass. side but why doesn't it do it all the time if that's the case. Also, the seal doesn't always leak oil, only after it's been stepped on for a few passes.(I know I need that fixed) :D

If the smoke is coming from underneath - it could be the rear main seal and it's dumping oil on your exhaust. I see you have an auto trans. check your lines and fittings for leaks. Does the smoke smell like burnt engine oil or trans. fluid? Or is it coming from the exhaust pipes? Blue tinted smoke usually means oil is getting into the combustion chamber (s) - valve guides/seals, worn rings (typical geriatric engine woes).

If it's coming out of your tailpipes then it might be blow-by caused by worn out piston rings. Are you frequently low on oil when it's time to change it? If you're running low regularly and you got the smoke, then you're burning oil somewhere, probably in the combustion chambers.

Nope, never low on oil. Well, only right after I get on it and park it for a while. But that's because the seal leaks ONLY after it's been abused for a little bit.

Are you talking about your rear-end? I meant your engine oil. My rear-end leaks a little, but mine never smokes like that. Check to make sure that there is no oil on the exhaust pipes from the tranny.

Nope, my rear main seal is bad. It leaks oil after I have WOT'ed the car and park it. There is plenty of oil on the right side pipe, but the smoke only comes out when I WOT the car, never while driving at normal speed for however long.
