Maybe someone can help me here, i am in the process of buying a manual tranny for my mustang (T-3650 from a 2004 Mach1). I would like to know if the tranny has the updated part in it or not. I have asked the guy to give me the number that is on the metal sticker on the passenger side of the tranny. Here is what he gave me :

4S-301-AA
E1900
131103
307966572

Now i dont see any 2R3Z or 3R3Z as mentionned in some previous posts. Some of you guys were saying that the S/N should start with 3R3Z to get an updated tranny.... I am mixed up !!!

Can somebody here understand the number i have written above.

Thanks.

I think the best bet would be to contact tremec directly and ask them.

I've had the kit put in last Fall, but in the cold (California) it still feels like stirring pebbles with a stick... Maybe during the winter brake, I'll give it back to them to see what they say...
I'm aggravated to no end... My '96 GT with 162,000 miles had a smoother tranny than this ever hopes to be!

Why would you want to intentionally let the dealer beat the sh;t out of your car? Do you think when they get a GT in they baby it? They are use to drive TaurAsses and Windstars all day. Their eyes light up when you bring your car in. I wish I had a data logger in my car for the "test drives" How does a 27 mile test drive sound?????

Acutally, I never let them go out on test drives alone. I have been in the car twice with Ford and twice with tranny specialists...you're right, other than the stang, Ford makes a bunch of junk...and they do love test driving GT's

Doesn't really matter, I won't be in this car much longer. I'm done with Ford. I've only had the car for 2 months...When will toyota make a mustang?

Have send an email to tremec, and they told me that they dont keep track of the transmission that as the new components in from the factory.
So, basically, there is no way to know if the tranny is updated by reading the number on the metal sticker on the side of the tranny.

So the 2R3W or the 3R3W dont prove anything.

Don't think you spoke to the right rep. The 3R number is the updated tranny.

I'll look for the rep whom I spoke with and email it to you over the weekend.

When I looked at the tag on a replacement transmission I got, the tag had a build date of 9/12/04 and a number starting with 2R. As the transmission feel is improved, I've got to believe the updated parts are in it.

I thought I read another person's post that mentioned something about 2R or 3R possibly being the part number.

Any clarity would be greatly appreciated.

Please can you specify exactly where this number (2R or 3R)is located on the tranny... is it on the Metal Sticker ? If it is , how come on the 04 tranny i have checked, this is the number found on it.

4S-301-AA
E1900
131103
307966572

There is not even close to 2R or 3R on these numbers.... do you understand why ?

When I looked at it while my car was on a lift, it appeared on the right hand side, about midway between the top and bottom of the case. I wish I had taken a picture of it! At any rate, I believe it was a paper sticker.

My 3650 woes:

Well my car was making some odd noises so I took her to the trannie shop. They got it all pulled out and apart and looked at it and said the cup bearing was wearing the shaft and the synchros were just about the worst he'd seen ... ever. This is on a car that only has 45k on it. And since the warranty is past its a $1050 + tax repair. Moral of the story is if you even think you might hear something funny take it in and have em look at it before warranty goes.

My mod money for a while is going to fix a trannie that ford should have recalled ... booooo ford.

pm me who you talked with also. I got the 2R tranny, and I know it isn't right. I would like to talk to the same person you did so I have some really good ammo when I go back to the dealer.

I am so glad I found this thread, my throw out bearing makes a squeeking sound when cold, and it chatters when it warms up, and 1-2-3 seems to have blockage...I thought I was the only one...
