Here is what I have on my N/A car... what else can I do for more HP?

Basically the guy is saying that you can get huge gains with a camswap in a 5.0, but only 20-30hp with a camswap on a 4.6L. Therefore, we are all idiots and should sell our nice newer cars and buy a ratted out Fox body so we can go fast cheap.[/QUOTE]

Well, I like 5.0's, and 4.6's...although I hate to admit it, it would cost less to build the same H.P. in a 5.0 VS a 4.6. I have spent a fortune on mine trying. :(

I know its cheaper to do a 5.0L, but I don't care for the older SN95s that much and although there are some sweet fox bodies, by the time I had one professionally painted (and body work done), made the interior livable, and put a nice set of wheels on it on top of all the motor work and suspension its not the bargain it started out as. If I had the room and money to have my GT and some beat-up '86 GT (my fav of the Foxes) that could run 10's, that might be OK. But at some point, I would end up making the '86 look good and it would be just as big of a money pit.

BTW, I'm glad to see you found out something with your cams. While your torque number looks good, I was concerned about your HP numbers with your extra cubes and radical cams. It just didn't sound right. Also, I emailed Gunnar (I think thats right) at Patriot last week and bluntly but nicely asked him about their heads. He admitted to having problems early on and said that the newer heads should be just fine. However, I am still seeing mixed feelings on the actual CNC work. Some guys have gotten pairs where one looks great and the other looks like it was ported by hand while blindfolded.

I've still got some time to wait as I won't have the money until late Jan/early Feb. I'm either going with Steen Racing and sending my current heads to him or going with the Patriots. If I go Patriot, I will make sure that I order through Summit so that I have their easy return policy if they show up and look like they were ported with a hammer and chisel.

anyway, here is your wakeup call, you think 12's is fast, i think thats cute. with enough money you can make anything run a 12, its not a big deal. hell, running a 12 with all that money put in your car, you sound like an import driver :owned:

anyway, im giving this kid back his thread.
What you think is a lot of money and what I think is alot of money must be two different things  My car has about 1200$ dolllars worth of parts I've added on it, and will have another 1000$ on it when it runs mid 12's.
How much did you have in that 13yr old car that did 12.1???

#1. Both of my sets looked identical and good, thats weird.

#2. I would rather deal directly with gunnar than summit to be honest with you. This way, you are dealing direct with the man. He stands behind his products more than anyone I know. If you do get a hacked up head, or do not like the way it looks, he will gladly send ya a new one, I am sure. Either way, with patriot, you get the best bang for the buck. Let me know what you decide. I am just mad because now they have stage 3 :(

I have an old classic that runs 12.1 in the 1/4 and hope for a little more with the new carb and the exhaust that I have (had nothing). I will actually get to use the bottle ( 150-175) when I get a cage put in. It was a little more expensive for me to build one because I had to do it all from scratch rather than having a a 281 or fresh 302 to start with. It's got the noramal bolt ons. But it's a little harder to get down the track, and sometimes wish I had a 5.0 for the suspension or arodynamics. But betting a newer car with older iron is a different kind of satisfaction. But these new 281's are pissing me off with the HP they can create. Yes at this point you can build a 302 cheap and smoke it motor for motor. But the parts weren't all that cheap or abundant when we started out either. I would trade my motor and BOTH my nuts for a motor that puts over 630 to the ground (Kenne Bell's test mule ) on pump gas with stock cams and heads. You guys don't think the parts prices will come down, and get better in the next few years. Especially since the factories are stirring up all the old gearheads ? Racing is becoming huge again, especially dragging. These motors, as much as I hate to say, are more efficient and have the capabilities to produce more hp and torque than the tried and true 5.0 that we all love. And get it done with a decent idle, and pass smog. Chevy's revolution they keep advertising is well needed. They need something to keep up with FORD'S SALES ! Just run wut ya brung.

at a dyno day this year, a 5.0 w/edelbrock heads, E303 cam, cobra intake and longtubes made 263rwhp out of fresh motor w/about 100miles on it

10min later my stock 4.6 w/shortie headers, prochamber, welded in mufflers laid down 249, STOCK 4.6
