I've calculated my gas twice and i am sure that i get 15mpg on my lil 2.3 NA. The only engine work done so far is the oil filter and plugs(motorcraft replacements) We also out a new tranny filter on (if that would maybe have something to do with it)

I'm hoping for at least 20 mpg, what should i buy? or should i get a full tune up? (what usually comes in a basic tune up?)

Thanks for any help!

Like stinger said, change the air filter.
Then, pull for codes.
Make sure the computer is going into closed loop. This can be done by watching the voltage on the o2 sensor when the engine is hot, and seeing it cycle between .3v and .7v all the time except when you are flooring it.
btw, I always floored it everywhere I went, and got 20mpg. The milage didn't change much when I drove normally... maybe because it normal driving puts is a lot of work of the 2.3 NA. :rlaugh:

GET the following for good measure:
Autolite spark plug wires.
Bosch oxygen sensor.
NAPA/Motorcraft distributor cap and rotor.

You could try replacing the intake temp and coolant temp sensors, as they are important in calculating fuel delivery and do wear out, but they will cost you around $50 for both at Ford.

A bad throttle position sensor can cause excessive fuel to be delivered everytime you make those minor adjustments to the accelerator. That alone is $40, though.

It runs good but i am having TPS problems, could this fix it. Also i dont floor it everywhere i go.
Hell yea.

You don't have to floor it everywhere you go to get bad gas mileage. Every time you make the tiniest adjustment to throttle position, if the computer picks up an increase, it will over-inject fuel to give you that little kick before the additional air actually gets there. If that air isn't there, and the TPS is reporting false data on how much you're opening the throttle, the computer just wastes fuel. Adds up over time.

Yeah my TPS is shot i think.

In cold weather it wont start of the first key turn, but on the second one it will and i cant just pop it in gear and go after i turn her on, she has to warm or it'll fall on its face.

I will get a tps in the next few days. I went to autozone and priced one and he said he could test it, and said i could bring it in real quick. i went out and i couldnt find how to get it out. I called my dad and said its a lenthgy process, like a couple of hours. Was my dad right or could i have got it out simply? The guy at auto zone made it seem like i could bring it in right then and there, i got confused.

You need to remove the idle air bypass unit (2 bolts) to get that out of the way. Then remove 2 screws to get the TPS off. Then unclip the TPS connector. That's it. You may need to find a super short screwdriver on account of the EGR being next to it. Also clip the connector back on BEFORE screwing the TPS on or the wire will be too short.

You really should pay the money for a good part from NAPA (Echlin brand only) or an actual Ford unit. If you spend less money on EFI parts you WILL receive trash. Trust me.
