......all the needles from the guages go all the way to the right?

the needles do what they would do if you were to take the negative wire off the battery and put it back on, then turn the key foward. all the needles go to the max.

only thing is that is does this everytime i start the car. i just noticed this yesterday.

i cleaned the battery terminals and checked all the fuses.

I would take your stang to your local
Ford service dept. and have it looked
at and fix the problem.

yeah....but i can't do that until monday now.

just seeing if it has happened to somebody else and maybe its an easy fix. i have extended warranty and my 3 year warranty is over.

With your extended warranty you are
saved! Just wait and get it fixed Monday.
Good Luck

yeah...still have the pay the 100 bux deductible though.

mechanically wise, i don't think its harming anything. it just seems as if the computer is being reset for some reason everytime i start the car. the car still drives fine and the guages still read good for the battery. i will just use the car and take it to ford on monday.

thanks

Cool sounds like a plan! I hope you get it fixed because it's
worth it!

Has your battery died recently? Mine did that shortly after i got my car and the batt. died cus i left the lights on. i had it jumped then let it run for a while to charge the battery. I think the battery went bad tho and every time i started the car, the guages did exactly what you are describing. After having the battery tested and confirming that it was bad, i got a new one, and that never happened again.
My advice, get your battery tested. if its bad get a new one. If its good, have them pull your diagnostic codes. that should tell you whats wrong.

also you might want to check the alternator... i see darkhorse's help has helped you a ton ;)

Check the fuses. The PCM receives power from a separate circuit all the time for battery-backed RAM. If that fuse is open, the car will start and run normally but the PCM will be reset pretty much every time...

i checked all the fuses under the dash and in the engine bay, none of them were blown. unless its one of the other fuses that i'm supposed to check, the greyish looking ones, i don't know how to tell if those are bad.

my batter hasn't recently died. i did notice that acide was coming out of the negative battery terminal. i cleaned the terminal and the battery cable. don't know how long that acide was there, but do you think that acid could have kept the battery from charging correctly? there wasn't a lot though, just a little.

did you notice the clock resetting itself? make sure your battery terminal is tightened properly.

 I doubt it's the battery. If the battery has enough juice to crank the engine then it's easily got the balls to drive the instrument cluster and PCM.

abe doesn't mention anything about cranking issues...

my car does it every now and then....I dont think anything of it. But I do think a new battery, will the battery make the car crank faster?
Yes it will definitely crank faster if your current battery is not up to its full strength.

I have to disagree with you here. When this exact thing happened to me I could still start my car. However everytime i did so, the needles would sweep then return to normal. everything worked fine, it just did that when i started the car. I had the battery tested and it was determined that i needed a new one. This never happened again after i replaced the battery.
remember, check your alternator too while your at it. if you have a bad battery, the alt has to work much harder and they tend to go bad with the battery.
