Ok, so with all the gathered info i have on this swap, im stil stumped on alot of questions.. Hopefully this thread can help me, and many others that may do this swap in the future... so lets begin with my basic questions,lol..

I understand the 99+ 4R70w's solenoids have a diferent resistance, or atleast some of them do..

Im guessing i have to use the below listed solenoids/parts from my 94-95 AODE in my 99+ 4R70w.

-S1&S2 shift solenoids
-TCC solenoid
-TOT sensor
-MLPS (possibly?)
-94/95 wiring harness
-94/95 valve body wiring harness
-Tailhousing

From what i understand, i can use the 4R70w's EPC solenoid, better yet, the 5.4l higher presure 220psi version (part #XL3Z-7G383-AA)

I understand the 4R70w's tailhousing needs to be swaped to the AODE, since they use two diferent slip yoke o/d's.

-As Quoted from TCCOA "3.8L V-6 AOD-E/4R70W transmissions have only one less clutch plate than V-8 units. Two new pressure plates (less than $20) from the Ford parts department will make it equal to a V-8 AOD-E/4R70W."

Is this refering to the 99+ V6 4R70w tranny?

I wouldnt second guess the info listed on TCCOA otherwise, but from all the searches ive done on Corral.net and Stangnet, and info read on TCCOA, one person says on thing, and another says somthing else..

I know Don95vert (on Corral) did this swap, and has a bunch of threads with the info, as does his site.

Your list of modifications seems accurate but if you intend to drive it on the highway please be advised that the your convertor will not lock up because of the car's computer will read an error. The only fix I can think of is the Baumannator stand alone AODE computer plus a 5-speed computer to compensate for the change. Otherwise if you are running a non-lock up convertor then don't worry about it.

yea, i read about having lockup issues on Don95vert's site..

I have a tweecer file, of someone that sucessfully got the lockup function to work correctly. So first off, i will test that out, adjust the tweecers lock up points, and worse case if that doesnt work, i will look into other alternatives.

As far as the tailhousing.. I plan on using the housing off my AODE, which will bolt right up to the 4R70w.

The 4R70w i have is out of a 2000 V6, sorry i didnt mention that.

I guess you have it figured out. I once had plans to install the 4R70W gear set in my AODE but reprogramming issues is what stopped me. If it turns out good for you let me know, I might change my mind and continue with my project. Good luck!

lol, well yea, thats just it... I dont have it all figured out

still not sure if the 99+ V6 4R70w can handle the power without upgrading the clutch plates ( if they really do have one less)

Not sure if i need to swap over all those solenoids or just the TCC, or what

Do you have a list of all what you switched, added, or replaced? I know somebody that will swap my aode for a 4r70w, if I buy the parts and tell them what has to be done.
I am hoping to pick up a v6 4r70w for less than 300 bucks. Then i will buy a street edge converter. Then I guess I will have to buy the tweecer r/t.

Will that converter work good? On it says 600hp.
Did you fix your shifting problem with tweecer?

The converter locking up isn't really an issue IF you use the '94-95 CC solenoid. And if you do that, you may as well use the rest of the 94-95 solenoids or you'll have to adapt the solenoid to work with the one-piece plastic connector on '99's and rewire your tranny harness because they changed things a lot. It's just a ton easier to use stock solenoids and maybe swap in a late model EPC solenoid and solder the wires to the connectors on the solenoid.

My converter locks up just fine. The issues I had a log time ago were the car not doing the 2-3 shift at WOT and this was caused by lots of torque. It wouldn't be an issue on a stock or lightly modded car. You also need to change the gear ratios and do a couple of other things in the EEC to get it to work right. On my car, the SCT software had the proper timer parameters I needed to mod to work with my torque monster - this was way back when I had my KB/302 setup. It's still fine with a lot more power now.

The only converter for over 350 RW torque is a PI multi-disk converter. Maybe some other companies have them as well, but as far as I know, they are it.

After I do all of that, and get a converter that will take the hp and tq, will it be able to take 500hp? On tccoa's tech articles they are talking about adding clutches and things like that. Is that just for older 4r70ws?

Why is that tranny so much better then the one you have now?

From what I have been reading, the aode has a bunch of problems and the newer 4r70w is supposed to be stronger and have those problems fixed. You can read more from the tech articles at tccoa.com

I thought the sct stuff was only for obd II. Where can you get it at for our cars?

SCT is for ANY mass air Ford - OBD I and OBD II - the flashers only work on OBD II, but chips work with OBD I/EEC IV - we have tuned tons of SN95's stock, modified, SC, turbo, nitrous, etc. Plus our own two vehicles both EEC IV. No real advantage to a flasher as far as the tune goes except chip to J3 port connection issues, which we never see. We use the same software for either.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but I just bought a 95 GT Convertible with an almost dead AODE in it. I'd like to swap a 2002 4r70w into it that I found for $93 and have gathered info from ClickClick Racing forum on everything that needs to be taken off my AODE and fitted onto the 4r70w.

Now I hear that I've got to get the EEC tuned to the new shift points. Don at Lasota Racing was suggested by SilverFox over on ClickClick to contact about the tune. So how does this work? Is it absolutely necessary? Dallas Mustangs says I have to buy a $299 chip and then pay them $125 to tune it.

If you decide to use me, I'd need your PCM code and any mods you have emailed to me. I have SCT chips for $299, which includes up to four tunes whatever you want and I also have generic single program chips for $225. Both are custom tuned however.

If you have a blower or a non-stock MAF, you really do need a wideband or access to one to dial the tune in.

Email me at [email protected] with questions.
