Took the stang for a drive a little while ago because its been sitting for about a week or so and I notice the temp guage is on the L of normal. I cut the heat on and all IM getting is cold air. So I pull in a parking lot cut the AC on to see if the fan will cool it down but it dropped very little. So it stays on the L the whole way back. I get home pop the hood and the overflow is completely full. I just flushed the system and refilled a couple months ago so its not low on coolant. The upper hose was hot was my question is what is the problem? Thermostat, waterpump or something else?

hmm, what was the outside temp? when your engine starts to get hot you never turn on the AC, you only turn on the heater, the AC makes your car run warmer, while the heater allows coolant to flow through the heater core and drops temps. what type of coolant/water mixture did you use? did you completely burp the cooling system?

It was about 40 outside. I had the heater on but it was blowing cold air. So I pulled over cut the A/C on to get the fan on if it wasnt already. I used 50/50 mixture with a bottle of purple ice. I refilled the radiator ran the car with the heat on and added what was needed after it cooled. As for burping Im not exactly sure whats involved in burping but im assuming its getting the air out of the system. So what do I need to do to ensure its completely burped? Oh and I just got done putting a new thermostat on and still having the problem so rule that out.

to properly burp a GT, jack the car up in the front and put it on jackstands. run the motor at idle with the cap off the overflow tank. keep adding water until it is full. you have to wait for the t-stat to open a few times to make sure its properly burped. just add water not coolant. the water is what provides cooling, the coolant/antifreeze is to lube the water pump and prevent freezeup. i always use a 70/30 mixture in my cars and i always use tap water. the prestone guy said to never use distilled water.

you jack it up to make sure that the rad cap is a lot higher than the rest of the motor. also look into the resivoir and see if the water is sloshing around. if its just sitting there then you probably want to check out the water pump. but leave it running for a while like 30 mins. thats the best way to burp these things.
