Mach 1 Bought A Mach 1

Well I got a new job, and I don't have to travel 65 miles to work everyday, so I decided to trade in my ford focus. I was looking for a 99 cobra, but I ran into a Dark Showdow Gray Metallic (my favorite mustang color) 03 Mach 1 for 19,800 with 24k miles. Me and my wife took the car for a long cruise before we signed our lives away, and we both fell in love. This car drives so nice, it feels slow, but then I am use to my 88 lx. I don't what to go crazy with mods, but what should I do first. I was reading a 5.0 mag and they put a cold air kit on a mach, and picked up some decent power for the money, but I don't know. The car is also to quiet, I need a good sound. With out going out of control, how much money would it take to get the car to sound as good as it looks, and to make it close to 300rwhp. This is my first mod motor, so things are all new to me. Now maybe these magazies will be worth reading now because they mostly cover the 4.6 in most the articles. I will take any suggestions. Thanks.

I put a K@N cold air intake on my '04 Mach first. Not sure if it gained any HP. I just had a Magnaflow "Magnapack" catback system put on also. Sounds AWESOME!! If you want people to hear you coming I would suggest a Magnaflow, SLP or maybe Borla Stinger system. I've got a Bassani catted X-pipe on it's way to me right now. And I just ordered some Steeda Underdrive Pulleys. I'm pretty sure that's all I'm gonna have done to it. That could change in the future though. :D

Congrats on the purchase mah man, personally..........I would go with the CL complete kit they sell on RPMOutlet and various other places, and as for exhaust DEFINATELY the SLP's. I have neither of these so don't speak from experience, I more less speak from the jealous side of my heart. LOL

:D

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!

Hey congrats on the Mach 1! One of the best models to come out of the Fox generation. Yeah, the 4V seems sluggish on the small end, but give her some rpms and enjoy. A DOHC V8 has that sound that makes the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Enjoy! :nice:

nice buy. check out http://www.svtsnake.com and go into their mach1 forum. some machs running low twelves with light mods. tell them powershots sent you. good luck with your mach.

Thanks guys, I love this car, but the wife and I fight on who gets to drive it, but I did tell her it was her Christmas present so I could get it :D . It does feel sluggish down low, but when you get to about 4600 rpm, it changes to a different car. I am still not sure about the mods I am planning on doing. I have a set of 4.10 I was going to put into the 88, but I am tempted to put them into the Mach. I don't want to hurt drivability to much, and it got 25mpg at 80mph coming home from AZ. I could put the 3.73's out of the lx into it, but I don't think that would make a big differance, what do you guys think? I can't go to crazy with mods until I decide what I am going to do with my LX. I should just sell it, and dump 8k into the mach. That would be cool. Well I will be continuing to browse through the forums looking for info. Thanks for the suggestions. :nice:

I recomend doing the gears, i havent noticed any diff in gas milage. I recently got 24.5mpg with the 4:10s on the highway. The first mod to do is Tires, second mod ditch the cats and after that do the gears. My car felt so much faster once i got rid of the cats and got the 4:10s. When you do the gears make sure you either get hardened 28spline axles or upgrade everything to 31spline.

Yea I think I am going to put the gears in, I have not heard anything about weak axles in the mach, my 88 has stock 28 spline 5 lug axles with 425fwhp, and no problems yet. I will have to check into that. Well I thought I would share some pics. Thanks.

Yea, go ahead and gear it, shouldn't be a problem. Dam nice notchback! I would keep it, two Mustangs are always better than one! Wish I woulda kept my first one, a 1985 SVO, I sold that thing with 60K miles on it, I do regret it :bang:

As mentioned above, you might want to check out the registry at www.mach1registry.com There have been plenty of people who have snapped axles with just stickier tires. Most go with a 31-spline set up if they are going to add any power and better sticking tires. Congrats on the new ride, they're a blast to drive :D
